Well, I got a CB700SC as my first bike. Very clean, got it for 1700. One month later, I am going around a left hand turn, and some pickup crossed the yellow line, I think I grabbed a bit too much rear brake (Ya, my mistake) but all I know is that I went down, HARD. I was doing about 60-70, and when the bike hit gravel, it high sided. The entire throttle grip and cable are GONE. The trans wont shift, but it will roll if I pull in the clutch. The fearing on the front took a clutch handle to the side and got badly cracked. The kill switch is gone. The exhaust (Strangely enough on the left side) is dented and pushed up against the springs. Some cooling fins on the head also are broken off, but the case isnt leaking oil.
Right now, I want to get my economy ride back on the street. I want to know what can be done about the transmission, but I aint ever been inside the case of a four banger. I have done some work on my Camaro, and I have re-built the dirt bike. Can I do this? Also I want to know if any of ya'll got some parts around the house that can help me out.
My biggest fear is the tranny, =/
Other than that, new set of bars, new kill switch, new throttle assembly, and bend the pipe off the suspension and I can move again.
To get her back to being hot stuff again, I need a new exhaust, new bikini fearing, and new heads. Paint all the cosmetic parts black so its just a custom looking hot bike.
My other way to get around is a 1991 Camaro that has a stroker 383 in it, gets about 7-10 mpg. I need to get this thing running ASAP

Ouch. Im sure you'll be able to handle the work yourself. Except for the transmission maybe. Im no motorcycle mechanic, but all my experience with cars transfers over fairly well.
I feel your pain on the gas mileage thing too. I have an F150 with the 4.6. It's not quite that bad on gas but its still a beast. Gas pumps stations me off before I can fill the tank, lol. Gotta get the bike back on the road.
For parts I'd say you just have to keep searching eBay or find a good motorcycle salvage place. If the manufacturer still makes parts for these motorcycles they're ridiculously expensive. They wanted about $500 for a new brake caliper for my '84 Nighthawk. The left caliper is discontinued and only the right is still available. Mirrors are about $45 a pop if I remember right. I need a new master cylinder and Im scared to find out how much that'd cost from the manufacturer. Thanks to eBay, I found a caliper for $60.
Good luck.

60 for a caliper is even steep on ebay, oldbikebarn is wonderful for finding misc parts and rebuild kits

A common manual (you know, Honda 4-cyl, 500-750CC, 1980-89 or whatever) may be at the local library, but the specific one is Honda part #61MJ102, which Googling yields several options: http://www.repairmanual.com/motorcycles/2000/69/0/493/160http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2.asp?class_2=AHC&mk=Honda+Motorcycle&yr=1984&md=On-Road&dt=Shop%2FService+Information&module=&from=result&Style=helm&Sku=61MJ102&itemtype=N&mscsid=RW0X14F3PNLA8PFMWTVGNSH697LRF6CAhttp://www.mrcycles.com/eshopprod_cat_3364-29761-29764-29813_product_383025.84-86_CB700SC_Repair_Manual.htmWorth a shot drilling and pulling the exhaust, depending on the damage. I'd straighten out the shifting before sinking time or money in the other matters. Hopefully it's just a mangled linkage, and clearly the clutch still works, but riding around in first gear will yield awful mileage. I'll try to scan (work scanner, so Monday) some tranny pages and get them up Monday evening, hopefully someone else has some know-how.

Oh yeah, I guess you were unhurt, which is really the most important thing, even though the collective guy mentality wants the bike running too. That 'look inside' feature on amazon.com isn't available for the manual, I tried.

I cannot help you diagnose the internals of the tranny, but...my job is parting out bikes on Ebay for a local independent shop. I know he has *some* of a 700S, but I can't remember if it stopped running because of a wreck, or if it was engine trouble. I will ask him what he still has, and also his opinion of your tranny, because that sounds weird. May I suggest before you do anything else, that you see if the front end and frame are straight, because if they got "tweaked" your parts/repair bills will negate any economy you will get from this bike. I am very glad you are able to tell us about your "get-off"...I know it doesn't help to hear it again, but it could have been much, much worse...

Ya, I have thanked god a few times that things were not worse. I mean, If i had been pinned any worse I would been on the side of the road all night... I could have lost a leg, and even just financially, I thank god I didnt have to go to the hospital, I dont have any medical insurance.
Still nursing a bad sprain in my right hand, but other than that and some road rash, I am ok :)
I would really love any advise or parts you and or boss could help me out with, It almost seems like I might be better off getting the entire transmission, but I don't know how hard to ship that is.... Not having to split the cases would be perfect, that way I dont have to worry about doing something wrong and being rushed.
I dont have any cash this month, but let me know. You guys rock!

Well, the cash flow is really bad right now, and I think I have decided to sell the bike.... How much you think I can get for it with the damage described?

No idea about the worth of the bike...if it cranks up, that's a good thing for a potential buyer to see. I asked my boss what a hard crash could to to make it behave that way....he said if it was hard enough, it could mess up the tranny but he didn't have any ideas for getting around it without splitting the cases. The 750S does have a notoriously weak tranny. I sure wish I had better news or at least parts to offer...but I don't. Please keep up posted!
