IT didn't even deploy on one of the demo videos. Granted, I have no sound here at work so it may have working correctly. 

Just from viewing it, it looks like it only helps with wiplash, and even then not very well.

It doesn't look extremely effective except the test where the dummy was hanging upside down  and the last test with the scooter didn't seam to make any difference ....if that would have been a real person he would have lost both his legs first, so a normal helmet would make no difference...I guess it depends on the circumstances of each particular crash that may happen in the real world and that, you can't test for 100% of any gear

It clearly prevents overextension of the neck (spinal column), and hence limits the g forces your skull and it's innards see.

However, there are identical devices that are installed in a vest or jacket.  Having an explosive charge (and it's ungainly size and weight) on the back of a helmet seems like a vastly less elegant solution.  I believe the clothing-mounted ones were tether activated, whereas this likely has some accelerometer trigger, but still....
