I always rode in my old army boots, but when I bought my Nighthawk I thought it was time for some real riding boots. I bought the cheapest quality pair I could find, and I'm loving them. I tried riding in normal shoos again one time when it was really hot outside, but it didn't feel safe and it felt like I had less control over my machine. Since then never I wear anything else but my riding boots when riding.

These are mine btw:

I know this is an old thread but ...I started reading just wondering what everyone here wore on their feet ...I see alot of heavy duty rideing gear here . I`m still old school and ride in real leather and until this weekend have always wore cowboy style boots .
Well the old cowboy boots had seen better days and the top of my old toe was hurting from shifting gears .
I went to walmart looking for some sort of steel toed work boot ..they have plenty to chose from ..I bought a pair for 32 bucks that fit well and have plenty of ankel support .
I would not buy boots or shoes on line ...they never fit ...its best to try them on before you buy .  What fits a China man will not fit my foot .
looks like most if not all boots are made in China .
Anyway I did get my moneys worth ....steel toe ....low heel ...Goodyear soles ..............I`ll wear them around the house until they get broken in ...
every boot has a break in period longer that most shoes .......nothing fits better than old shoes or boots ..

Try the LLBean Goretex Cresta Hikers sometime. They're spendy however they're hikeable right out of the box. I'm rough on my equipment so I only get about 5 years out of them. The pair before the ones I currently have arrived one afternoon and two days later I was at the trailhead for a 48 day solo backpacking trip.

IMO, a properly fitting boot doesn't need much of a break-in period.

Wow never had a pair of boots that felt that good out of the box ..and I own some expencive boots .  I`ve never had a custom boot made for my foot not that I wouldn`t ...just don`t know any local boot makers . The break in on these I bought is going to be the stiff uppers ..like I need to do some squats on the ball of my feet .
I guess the problem is ...everyones foot is a little different ...and everyone walks a little different .
Funny ..story ... I sat in a chair in a custom boot shop in Mexico for a hour ...while they tried to find some boots to fit me .
it gave my tired feet a rest just sitting there letting them try to fit my foot ..with me telling them ...you find a nice pair that fits me ...I will buy them !   They gave up after an hour ...my wife was with me ..she knew they would never find a pair that would fit my high instep . hahahaha
we had been walking all day and she needed the rest too ...
