I definitely feel safer riding with boots on, but all I have is lace-up hiking boots so far. If I wear my sneakers now (ever so rarely) I almost feel 'nekid' on my feet...

UPDATE on the ICON boots;
It took a whole season to break them in, but now I totally like them. I just unbuckle the side buckles when I want to walk around.
I know this is a old thread but I had to comment. I do the same with mine lol Took me all summer to break mine in and I've gone to the mall, walked on trails etc in them and now they fit great. Plus I love the look and they feel like they are safe too. I wear a size 9 and I never had to adjust the shifter nor do I have any trouble shifting. They are true to size, I wear a 9.5 mens DC skate shoe and I bought a sz 9 boot because DC's run small. If anyone is thinking about them I hope that helps. I read a lot of contradicting info about them before purchasing.

Been thinking about it, watched a show on the Alpinestars factory last night soooo today I went shopping. Love my Alpinestars dirt riding boots. These are the Ridge water proof.

I almost didn't reply, since it's such an old thread, but seeing as how it seems to be resurrecting... Gotta second the A* boots. I received a set of Alpinestar Scout boots for Christmas, and they are incredibly comfortable. I'm still waiting for the snow to melt up here in the far, frozen north so I can see how well they work on a bike (and we just got another foot, foot and a half maybe, overnight, grrr).

+1 on the Alpinestars Ridge boots. Had em for 1.5 seasons, still holding up, velcro is still strong. I was nervous about spending $130 on a pair of boots, but it was worth it.

I've got a couple of pairs of steel toe'd redwing boots. I might eventually get something with more ankle protection though

 But did someone call me? Sorry, I failed at stopping myself. Velcro is one of the greatest inventions ever. I feel warm & safe with Velcro. Velcro is what keeps two bodies together safely. Velcro is the original, there are many imitations, but they are referred to as "hook & loop". None have Velcro's qualities or beauty. Foreign objects are attracted to Velcro, once they touch Velcro, it is very hard to let go. Velcro makes me happy most of the time, but once in a while Velcro tests my patience. Did I miss anything else?

I've been patiently waiting on my boots that I ordered from a reputable online cycle gear store on the 6th so, I figured I would email them to find out what the hold up was since they still haven't shipped. They told me that since I had also ordered 2 pairs of gloves, one of them being on order so the entire order wouldn't be shipped until they came in. I know that emails can be interpereted in many ways but, the way this email came across was, "you will just have to wait and like it". I felt like I was just slapped in the face with that answer so, I became a "fan" of them on Facebook and posted on their page that I wasn't too happy about how long it was taking to get my order. Seeing that its a public page, I guess they finally decided to do something about it. They shipped out my boots and one pair of my gloves today. I don't like being a "jag" about something like that but, sometimes I think stores forget what customer service is all about. After all, isn't the customer always right? Besides, the weather is finally looking good and I need to get out there and do some riding. Its going to be 65 this week.

Did you ask them to split the order and ship what's in stock before you posted on Facebook about it? Most companies know that their reputation is only as good as their customers perceive them to be. I'd err on the side of asking them to make it right before publicly venting about it. Publicly venting on Facebook or Twitter can have more of an effect than a situation warrants (sometimes, not always). That's just me, and it's heavily biased by the fact this happens to my employer from time to time. You are right--the tone of an email can be hard to interpret. It's important for those in customer service to remember that.

I agree with you, Craig. I did ask them to split the order before I publicly posted what I did. I'm not a total ass. They gave me nothing. Thats why I posted my displeasure on Facebook. I didn't want to do it but, since their response to my email was what I consider to be poor customer service, I felt I had no choice but to respond publicly. Now mind you, I wasn't rude in my post. I was very subtle and tactful. But, it did get my point across and got me what I ultimately wanted...for the merchandise I paid for to be shipped instead of waiting for who an unknown time period to be shipped. Heck, they didn't even know when my stuff would be shipped based on the the gloves they were waiting on. Some people will post rude things publicly about a store in an effort to get free merchandise or discounts off of their next order. I couldn't care less about that. I just want what I paid for.

Also, once they resolved the situation, I did go back to my original post and publicly thanked them for fixing the problem. I wasn't trying to flame them or make them look bad. Thats why I didn't name them in this particular post.

I just ordered a new pair of Icon Super Duty boots. Hope they are comfortable. The price was right though. $90.00 shipped.
I don't mean to disappoint you in any way and hopefully it was just my experience/fit but I bought these boots last year, wore them a couple of times and did not like it at all. I felt that they were really stiff when off the bike and made me walk "funny". On the bike they were all right, but the shifter contact felt really disconnected. I also did not like messing with laces and buckles any time i wanted to go for a quick ride. So i put them back in the box and they are still in like new condition (anyone wants them? :) ) So I got a pair of Icon Tarmac Ventilated boots based on a review I saw on webbikeworld. Went on a couple of rides and walks and they feel so much better. More like a pair of high-tops and that's exactly what I was looking for. Something i can wear off the bike and be comfortable. Quick to put on because they are velcro based. With any other boot I was always tempted to put my sneakers on which of course defeats the purpose. I am hoping that since they are vented they will be a lot cooler in the summer than leather boots. Again, your experience might be totally different and tons of people love the Super Duty based on the reviews that i read. All depends on what you are looking for in a boot.

Got the Icon Super Duty boots finally the other day. Been wearing them to try and break them in a bit. Vert was right, they are very stiff but, feel pretty comfortable to me. I suspect they will loosen up once broken it.
All of the motorcycle boots I have owned have been Harley brand boots and my first impression of the Icon boots is, they seem to be more purpose built than the Harley boots I've worn. In my opinion, it seems that the Harley boots are more designed towards fashion than function. The Icons have better ankle support and a stiffer sole for shifting and braking purposes I suspect. The one thing the Icons lack is decent arch support but, I just went to Wally World and bought some insoles for them. Since I only paid $90 for the Icon and the average price for Harley boots is $150+, I don't regret buying them a bit. Now I know why "real" riding boots can cost so much. They are designed and built better than Harley boots. Looking forward to trying them out on the bike soon.

Just found a great deal locally on the Alpinestars Ridge boot - last pair they have in my size and they want to move them before getting out the snowmobile gear Based on positive feedback from green427, soupskin and tombraider, I think I'll put the trigger this week. Anyone have good or bad experience with these boots?

Sorry fish, just one pair of 11's left and it's MINE, ALL MINE!! But if, for some reason, I end up passing on them, I'll definitely let you know. (BTW - my normal shoe size is 10.5. The size 11 Ridge fits me perfectly, so if you are a size 11, you'll probably want a larger size in this boot.)
