I have decided to basically "rat" out my 94 250 Nighthawk and so I have been changing out things, making frame changes, etc to give it that customized rat look that I am after....now the time has come that I have changed out my handlebars to ones that are more in keeping with the look of the bike. They have an 8" rise to them and then flow back towards the rider...kind of like the "buckhorn" looking bars. Well needless to say I am going to have to get new custom made cables to accommodate these bars....hence this is where I need the help....I need to try to figure up just how long I am going to need these cables to be.....both throttle cables, front brake cable and clutch cable.....I took a tape last night and measured from the bottom corner of the bars where they pass through the fork, following the contour/shape of the bar to the end of the handlebar and it measured 22".....so how do I figure what my new overall length will be for all 4 of these cables......? Also....do any of you have any knowledge/experience with getting custom cables made...if so any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.....I have no idea what the stock length is on these cables as I haven't removed them from my bike just yet, in case I need to put the other bars back on.....so if any of you know what the stock lengths are for these 4 cables I would really appreciate it if you could/would share that with me.....also....maybe even if you know how to determine what ends are on them that would be a huge help also....if not...I'll have to pull the cables and send them off to the fabricator for reference....

Thanx in advance....Anita

If I was doing this, I'd measure the original handle bars and the new ones egtting the difference, then just add that to the length of the stock cables.  If you don't know the length of the OEMs, call whoever you're getting to make the new ones, the may know.

When i got my 450 the speedometer cable i ordered i had to send back for a 1.80 m version although i measured it.
Motto of the story is: Don't forget to include the bents and turns the cable harnesses make. Use a piece of stiff electrical cable to go from point to point and round up.

And remember kids....

You can always cut something shorter, you cant cut it longer.

Better still: Know what you can get. Ordering a longer one should be no problem. Order a too short one and realise its too short afterwards and some businesses will charge you for the second as well. I could send my shorter one back without any extra expenses in exchange for the fitting one but i wouln'd bet on it.
Measure well and take the length above that. The twist and turns take up more length than you would guess.
