Another question: I just sort of bought a 750 Nighthawk ( CB750 82 ) with a faulty dynamo. ( My wife is taking lessons and wants the 450 )
Can i drive 60 miles with a charged battery before it dies on me?
Or will it run without power even though the lights can't be turned off? I would hate to push the dear old girl for the last 30 miles.

As an option i would screw out the lightbulbs and take along the battery of my 450. That ought to close the 88 km gap?

If you are riding in the daytime, remove the headlight fuse and ride without it; That will save 5 amps.
On my Hondas, the headlight has a separate fuse from all of the other circuits; check your 750 for sure.

The engine also uses about 5 amp, but you can't ride with it turned off.

Keep the Brake light off except when it is needed; that is the next big user of electricity.

Use hand signals instead of the turn lights and save a little more.

The engine on my 650 uses about 5 amps (same as headlight), so I presume the 750 will also.
A 12 amp*hr battery can deliver about 5 amps for more than 1 hr (about 2 hr)
But electronic ignitions do NOT work well on low voltage!

If you start the bike from a spare battery (jumper cables), pulled the headlight fuse, ride at 60 MPH with no stops
(highway riding), you probably can make it.

Hopefully, the battery is a 14 amp*hr and the alternator puts out some electricity at highway speeds.

Let us know what you do and how the story ends.   I love my 650, hope you get the same feeling about your 750.

As a matter of safety I will take out the battery of the 450 and bring it with me. My wife will be riding in the car to bring me there, so in case off an emergency i allways can jumpstart it with her car. Nontheless it will be a ride never to forget. ;)

With two batteries i should be able to make it then.
60 miles is about 90 km. Not much room for error though.

the more you rev the motor the fewer miles you'll make and the ignition probally wont have full power above 3000 rpm
