FARFEGNUGEN forever!!!

Just kidding, while I do have the NH in pieces awaiting resurrection, I found this sweet little number (yeah right 600lbs+) for a song and was in the mood to get out on the roads.  I am not disappointed, she's got no lack of power at 1000cc and still glides down the road.  Also, it's much more likely that my G/F will ride two up this summer for camping excursions.  So, in short, I'm wet my self kinda excited about this bike.  Tonight I even came to work in the cage (on account of rain), waited for it to stop raining, then drove back home and rode my bike back to work for some extra riding time.

I'm going to keep working on the NH this summer when I have the time.  I also told my friend who's handy with bikes that if he could get it highway worthy I'd throw a couple of bucks his way.  So, sometime in the next few months I should have it up and running.  I figure it's good for a serious project bike.  The 83 550 was a one year model, so I figure if I strip it down and restore it, it'll be worth it.

Anyone know of a forum similar to this one for BMWs?  There are a couple of things I'd like to ask someone who knows these bikes.

I know the K75 is supposed to be about the best thing BMW ever put out, and they've made some decent bikes in their day.  Very smooth and reliable.  I'm assuming the K100 shares the same reputation.

My friend e-mailed me a craigslist link for a k75 the day I went to pick up my Nighthawk.  He still thinks I made the wrong decision.

I know there are Beemerphiles at ADVrider.com, but Googling should yield an enthusiast group (hint- use enthusiast as a keyword to avoid for sale listings).

there are a ton of BMW forums out & about, those guys are tweekers (and snobs!) about theirs bikes (my bf has an '08 K1200s, it's his 3rd consecutive beemer, his dad's on his 4th, I know first hand how anal they are, lol).

Those things will last forever, I actually looked for a K75 for a while.  There was a bike called Old Smokey, ridden by a guy named Paul Glaves - had 340k miles on it when it was totaled.  The K100 isn't so very much different.  Bulletproof, like our Hawks.

Good looking bike you found there!

Yes, I am trying as hard as possible to become a "snooty BMW owner."  It's strange how people can almost build a religion out of bikes, but you'll not find me worshiping my K bike or my NH for that matter.   Although, my love for both bikes was greatly reinforced when I had to ride my buddy's new GSXR 600 back to the house (on account of him not having an endorsement.)  I can imagine at 6'5" I am a good foot taller than the tallest man that those Japanese engineers envisioned riding that rolling torture machine.  The exactness of the controls and suspension I'm sure is a benefit for the track, but I don't ride to the limits of a touring, let alone a sport bike.  Anyways. what I meant to say is that I find myself with a much upturned nose these days, and I'm reticent to be caught with the unwashed masses of this non-BMW forum, getting the smell of pleb all over my now golden hide.  laugh

I hope you ride through a puddle and get mud all over the shiny white clean paint. Or better yet catch a splash of some gunky fork oil that I left behind.  muhaha

Upturned nose, eh?  Be sure to trim those nose hairs, and tilt your head down a bit in the rain.

yes, that big dent in the side of the tank showing that you can't quite afford the $2000 for a used BMW tank makes you much different than us hawkers ;) ;) hehe

Nice Bike!  600lbs huh...still lighter than my fjr.  The "older" beamers as I've been told will run forever.  The newer, not so much without replacing a lot of the stock parts.  Snooty?  Only the service places where you take them.  A guy I know who bought a new beamer about had a heart attack when they told him $800 for his first service on a brand new bike!  They are smooth and sweet though!
