I'm going tomorrow to look at an '02 Bandit 600s. I've read reviews and such, but real-world opinions are nice, too. I know this is a Hawk forum, but you guys have a wide variety of bikes and stablemates. I love my hawk, but a little variety is nice :)

My buddy has a bandit 1200 and loves it. I've never ridden a 600, but as you said they get a lot of praise.

Coffeebreak is in love with them. They are rated at 73.9% overall.

Search "bandit" and read all about it! She's prolly rebuilding her bike for the big camping trip.

Aha... I found the thread...
Wonder how much difference (other than the obvious) that there is between the 1200 & the 600. I'm not into big bikes, wondering how good the 600 would be at touring sportishly.

itsolright i guess...any 600 would be hard to consider a touring bike really.
not to say you can't tour with them tho.....anything smaller than that is a little stressfull with longer freeway riding. I guess my opinion would be, it's about the smallest i would want for longer highway trips.

Well, I really don't like the weight & feel of bigger bikes. I'm not very big (5'7", 120lbs), and the smaller bikes just seem to feel better to me (although if I were rich I'd like the F800ST). I'm gonna have to do more reading, I guess.

A 600-750 will perform well for you on the highways......it's just a little trying riding anything smaller at 80mph for extended rides. You are exactly the right size, now all you need is a bike to fit!

The thing about the Bandit is that it's strikingly similar, imo, to the Hawk in a lot of ways, but modernized. Similar seating position, HP, etc. (+ that 1 extra gear I'm always wishing I had). Damn Honda for not bringing the new CB's into the US, and damn the US market for wanting plastic bikes.

Sorry, was out riding with my friends all evening... The 600 Bandit is based on the 600 Katana motor. It's buzzy, not extremely powerful. I mean, it won't make you think you're on a sport bike but it's VERY competent. Just like the Katana 600. I want a 1200 Bandit, still. Even though I dearly love my NH.

I'm surprised Happycommuter hasn't chimed in on this one, he used to ride an SV650 I believe...I always wanted to try one of those. Not quite the same platform as the Bandit (v-twin as opposed to in line), but a standard riding position.

Rode it down the street & back when we got home (trucked it, wasn't about to test crazy bay area drivers in rain).
Huge smile when I got off. Gonna take some getting used to, and some tweeking, but I have a feeling this is gonna be fun.
can I still hang out here if I'm a bandita? :D
