Hey all.  Just wanted to say hello.  My name is Simon and I live in the DC area.  Just snagged myself a non-running 85 CB700.  This is a picture I took last night in the waining light.  I'll get more pics up as I clean her up and get her roadworthy.

 welcome new guy poke

Wow, it still has the faux velocity stacks on the carbs!  Tape and splint the turn signal stalk, well after you get her running.

Good luck!

Welome aboard. Do you know what it needs to get it running?

Are those covers prone to disappear over the years? I took mine off my '86 because I put pod filters on the carbs, but I figured most folks didn't do that.

This is the first bike I've noticed that has them, and I know they weren't on my bike when I got it.  They are functionless decoration that seems to have gone out of style (I had to look up what a real velocity stack even is).
That's my best guess.  Anybody else? threadjacked

Then you haven't seen the picture of my '84. It still has them.  And this time, I'm not taking them off. thumb

Thanks guys.  The whole non-running thing is just a dead battery.  Its been sitting for 2 years so the gas is kaput and she needs multiple fluid changes.  I hope that when I change the oil in the engine and shaft (each with a touch of seafoam), change out the gas, clean the carbs, and replace the battery, she may start up!

Time will tell.

Seafoam is a fuel cleaner and stabilizer. If you pour it in your gas tank, it will help keep carbs and injectors clean. I discovered it only a couple of years ago when the boat mechanic at Key West told me to put it in my boat regularly. It has made a big difference in the boat and I have since been using it in the bikes. For storage, I like it better that StaBil in that the boat starts right up after being stored with the same gas for 7 months.

I have heard that it works well in the crankcase to help break up sludge and other nastiness. I haven't tried it myself though.

Ah, okay. I know what fuel stabilizer is, but I've never heard of 'seafoam'.

You mean adding it to the oil?

Yes, there are those that add it to the oil also. Most all the auto parts stores have it for about $5 a can. I know Autozone and Advance have it. I am sure all the big box auto stores have it.
