Anyone know a good/cheap website for me to go to get some OEM parts.  I have been having consistent troubles with my front brakes on my 1983 CB550.  The brakes keep locking up no matter what I do.  I have rebuilt the caliper, flushed the system to no avail.  My mechanic tells me that he thinks the bracket is not even the correct part anyway.  I have decided to just get an entire new front brake system.

I am planning on getting a new bracket, caliper, brake hoses, and master cylinder.  I have looked at an OEM site and those parts came in at about $475.  Does anyone know anywhere else I could go to get it cheaper?

Thank you,
David

You rebuilt the MC, but did you rebuild the caliper(s)?  Those seals need replacing as well.  If the hoses are original, the could also be causing the problem.  The caliper itself rarely breaks; good cleaning and some new seals and they should be fine.

Since you know the cost of new parts and want to save $, then try EBAY for used parts.
Just remember, those parts are as old as your's.
But they may be in better shape.
Unfortunately, I doubt thet there are many parts out there for sale

Here is the bracket you mentioned. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Honda-Nighthawk-CB-550-Front-Caliper-Bracket_W0QQitemZ160332715027QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item2554931413&_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116

and caliper: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Honda-Nighthawk-CB-550-Front-Brake-Caliper_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZQ7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a30QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQhashZitem230104e8b3QQitemZ150340954291QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

and MC: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1983-Honda-Nighthawk-CB-550-Front-Brake-Master-Cylinder_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZQ7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a30QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em14Q2el1262QQhashZitem25546ecdc8QQitemZ160330337736QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

All from the same supplier at what looks like good parts and good prices.

Sometimes you just have to throw $ at the ptroblem.  It is still a lot chaeper than a new bike.

I hope this helps.

Thanks alot ExTex.  I just bought all of those parts off ebay and I am going to give that a go.  Worst case scenario is I am out another $75, but best case is I just saved $400.

Thanks again, I'll let you know how it goes.

Great.  It looked like the seller had all you needed.  This way you should have the correct parts, but may have to rebuild some of them.

Glad to help.  Let us know the results.
