I'm no expert but I'd think I could pick a CB650 out of a lineup.  Not this one.  The wheels and motor register, but everything else looks way different.

In a good way.  It looks like a different bike and not a bike that's been made to look different.  Harmonious design.  Nothing cluttered or conspicuous.

Handlebar looks different, swingarm painted, front fender cut.  Headlight already mentioned, sidecovers missing, I'm unsure about the seat, shocks.  Clearer photos would make this game more fun...

Overall first reaction, primarily due to the second picture, was a 79 CB650 because of the tank..except for the triangular side cover area with a silver intake box cover (80-82) and dual front disk brakes which are 81C or 82SC. The black engine isolates it to an 82SC - all others were silver.

1979 tank.
Missing scaredycat bar, um, sissy bar makes the rear end look weird.
Really weird tail light looks like it belongs on a harley. Unknown origin.
That headlight is just plain wrong and that's all there is to it.
The front fender doesn't cover squat and will let the tire throw water and mud all over everything in the rain. Unknown origin.
Dual front disk brakes = 81C or 82SC

It looks rather classic with some modifications and nothing overly offensive going on. Overall very nice based on the low resolution picture. The only thing that really pulls attention is that headlight.

thanks guys for all the nice remarks. i can get some better pics up soon if you guys would like.

it is an 82 Nighthawk. rear fender is different, tank is different, all the lights are different, doesnt have the side fairings, rear springs are different, handlebars are different, ect. i still have most of the stock stuff like rear/side fairings, lights, shocks, and a bunch of misc. pieces if anyone would be interested in buying those parts.

Cool bike! Good to see another Indiana person on here. Where is Madison exactly? I'm located in Lafayette.

Madison is Southern Indiana. right on the border of the Ohio River, and about 45-50 miles north of Louisville, KY.

Ah. Lafayette is abut an hour northwest of Indy. We should ride together sometime if you're interested.
