my other friend (honda tech), . Either one of the two can hold a candle to the '86. I mean large noticeable difference.
Did you mean to say "neither"? It kind of changes the meaning...

A rare moment of poetic justice I haven't had in a while is when some jackass zooms past you on a straight and slows WAY down for the curve while you sail around them. I just imagine they really hate that. On their 900cc+ sport bike.

Poetic justice: I was talking with some of the "riders" from another section. They were discussing their last trip to the Dragon's Tail. These guys all ride bigger sport bike, one 750 that I know of, the rest are 1000's. They were talking about how great the ride was how how well they were doing when they got a severe shock. Seems they got passed by a Goldwing. It wasn't bad enough that they got passed, but he did it on a hairpin corner and had the gall to wave as he went by.
I've gone to the Dragon a couple times with my brother; he handles his 95 1500 'Wing like a sport bike. He leans so far he's already ripped off one set of air horns and scrapes the plastic on the lower sides.

Wahrsuul Back in my younger years, and my 88 1500 GW was new I had more fun doing that to the sporties, they just couldn't believe when my GW would out perform them and leave them in my dust, where did he go? I don't ride like that any more, but it was fun back then. It would still be fun now but I don't do that any more.

Hey I'am with isleofmanfan what did you do to your bike, that makes it so fast There is no way I would have a chance against something like that(cbr)even if it was a 600. Very interested! sounds like I have a winter project now.

Hey I'am with isleofmanfan what did you do to your bike, that makes it so fast There is no way I would have a chance against something like that(cbr)even if it was a 600. Very interested! sounds like I have a winter project now. A quick run on the street is by no means a representation of a bike's true speed or capability. I've beat a C6 Corvette in my car, but it was a quick run and I'm betting it caught him in the worst part of his powerband and me at my best, so I'd never claim that as a "kill." But the time I beat a Mustang GT on the drag strip with a set finish line, starting point, and lights, I do. Unorganized start/finish points, varying rider skill, and varying rider intentions all play into the results of a "race." I have a friend that has a Fox-body Mustang GT. One time he and a friend were driving around when they came upon a hopped-up Geo Metro driven by a guy and what appeared to be his girlfriend; she was pointing at the Mustang and egging the Geo's driver on. As they pulled away from the stoplight, the Geo was giving all it had and miraculously staying ahead of the Mustang. My friend's passenger immediately knew my friend was dogging it and couldn't understand why. My friend replied, "I know my car could easily beat him, there's no contest there. But I just got that guy laid." I guess what I'm trying to say is that when you participate in a spontaneous "race" where intentions and rules aren't agreed upon between parties, it's foolish to actually make any conclusions about it.

I tell ya...my buddy has a 2000 CBR600. Its his first bike and he is just learning on it. But once he's ready, I'll see how my 750s goes up against it. It should be close...I would say the 600 would win with the right driver. It only weighs 375 lbs and has a claimed 109 HP. While the 700s has a claimed 80 HP (mine might be a tad more since mine is a 750 and is moded) and the 700s weighs 469 lbs.
Edit: I just read that the 750 Nighthawk S (the one sold outside the US) has a claimed 91 HP.

Most 600 class sport bikes run a quarter mile in the mid-10s. An early 700cc Nighthawk in perfect condition will run a 12 flat. The '91 and up 750cc Nighthawks run 13s. Power-to-weight ratios: CBR: 3.44 lb/hp Nighthawk (based on your numbers): 5.15

Poetic justice: I wonder if that's Yellow Wolf. At one point Killboy said no matter what you're riding or how much HP and traction you have, if a big yellow gold wing comes sailing up behind you, just move over, let him pass and don't try to keep up.

Anybody have an idea of what an 82 650 NH will run in the quarter? I know the Nighthawk is a cruiser an has no business racing sport bikes.

I'd bet in perfect conditions with a perfect driver you'd manage a 13 flat or so. The '82 still had the SOHC engine (I believe) so it was only putting out around 60hp.

SOHC 63HP Most numbers I've run across say 110-115 mph maximum speed No clue on racing accelerations. With stock sprockets, it's good enough to leave most cages behind when they scare you...even above 13,500 feet though that's probably because FI cages are afraid of flying off the mountain at the 180 deg switchback.

I watch his videos in awe. I went one a group ride a couple of years ago with a pretty diverse group - a harley, my hawk, a triumph, a CBR, several BMW's, and a guy called "Bear" on a Goldwing. He tossed that thing about with ease & kept up pretty darn well with the sport-boys in the twisties.

When it comes down to it its ALL the rider. Especially on the street. Most people who ride bikes know how to rip through the gears they know nothing of how to get into a turn hitting the right apex or rolling throttle at the exact time right before the apex so they come out of the turn ripping.
