Laminar - I just can't let this go. I'm not talking Street racing, I'm talking track racing. I been going to the drag strip at least 5 times a year for the past 20 years.
A stock 700s was clocked in 1984 by a professional rider for a magazine review at 12.09. There isn't anyone on this planet that will ever match that on a 25 year old stock bike.
But for the sake of discussion, even if they could, they still won't catch any GSXR600 unless the kid was absolutely sleeping, which is by all rights, a pointless arguement. If I drive a top fuel dragster and don't leave until the clock says 8 seconds, I'd lose too.
I'm not sure what point you thought I was trying to make, but based on your reply, I believe there was some sort of misunderstanding. I was simply trying to respond to all of the "OMG I DON'T BELIEVE A NIGHTHAWK COULD HAVE KEPT UP WITH A GSXR LOL" posts.
It's the street. There are no rules and infinite variables. Absolutely anything is possible, especially when you're unaware of the other driver's intentions.
Making any conclusions based on a random run on the street is pointless.Oh, and for what it's worth, check out dragtimes.com, there are plenty of GSXR-600s there running a full second behind what they were "professionally" tested at, some even slower, and those are just the (real dragstrip!) times that people weren't too embarrassed to post.
