my bike, a little rust, a little road rash, but still runs pretty good. its got a valve tick, and ive been told by a cop that he could hear the chain from inside his squadcar, but it hasnt let me down yet. fresh rubber, but needs service, engine and fork oil change, new cables, maybe new bars.

did the cop hear a valve ticking or cam chain rattling? the cam chain will saw through the engine block, a valve adjustment requires changing shims on the early dohc motors. need a little cleaning but overall good lookin, oh where is the front fender

welcome Good looking bike you have there.. same colour and year as mine. Are the handle bars pushed forward a little bit?? they look to be angled up somewhat. Also, it may just be that your chain (assuming you were talking about your drive chain) is a little loose. When on the center stand, if you push up on the bottom of the chain about 6-8 inches from the rear sprocket, there should only be about 1 inch of movement upwards. If it is really slak there are two bolts at the end of the swingarm (one on each side). Lossen the lock nuts, and screw int he bolts evenly until you get that ~1 inch of slack, then re-tighten the lock nuts.

im pretty sure he was talking about the drive chain, he just said "that chain needs some oil..." i spray it with pj1 pretty regularly, but i think the clymer manual talks about soaking it in warm gear oil. its got the proper play, no rust, when i has the rear wheel off, none of the links were stiff. im assuming the orings are ok. i dunno, i think the cop was tryin to blow some smoke up... i dont hear it myself, but i guess at highway speed i probably wouldnt.

the second day i had it, third as a rider, i had a little offroad adventure and the front end got all twisted up. thanks to some misinformation from the honda dealership, i took everything apart and put it back together, when all i needed to do was loosen the clamps on the trees, banghead but anyhow i took it to a different shop to get a new tire put on before i put the fender back on. they said "yeah, sure, we got one of these." didnt notice til i got home that it was a little bigger than stock and there was no way to get the fender back on. its vain, i know, but i kinda like the look of that big fat rubber without the fender.
