This morning I found the tool set that comes with the bike hidden behind a sliding compartment door on the clutch side of the bike. I have been meaning to soften the suspension since I bought it and thankfully the full tool set was there. I adjusted the rear shocks easy-peasy. Noticing the time I realized I needed to get to the office to get caught up on work so I gear up and take off. I pull into the parking lot at the office and realize something isn't right. I had forgotten to secure the tool case door and know it is somewhere between my house and the office. That covers about 17 miles of road. I'm going to retrace my steps but I'm pretty sure it is gone. I'm so ticked at myself.

Preflight is everything. I've come close to loosing stuff out of my jacket pocket because I was in too much of a hurry to verify the zippers were closed. Always take time for one last walkaround especially if you're in a hurry.
While annoying, losing the tools is ok though. Those chinese tools are made out of 40% rubber and 60% steel. (Or is that 60% rubber, 40% steel? Something like that anyway) You just need a preload wrench and the rest of what you lost can be replaced at Sears which, while their quality has degraded over the years, it's still made of 100% steel which won't strip bolt heads.

Yep, being in a rush and more importantly not being thorough when closing the cover. The tools never came out though, only the cover flew off. The tools were braced against the frame of the bike at the opening.

Others are missing them too. New covers are a bit over $20.

Thanks HC, that is a very helpful link. I'm going to retrace my ride back home after work tonight to see it I can find it. Chances are slim but I'll try.

Never found it. I still keep my eyes open but it is most likely gone for good.

Not hard to make a new one out of sheet metal. When I bought my 85 the tool kit cover was long gone. Metal one probably fits tighter than OEM.
