i'm kind of a noob, so please bear with me...

does anyone have any idea why the lights would stay on on my '82 450 with the ignition in the OFF position and the key out?  i thought my neighbor was either crazy or just seeing the lingering afternoon sun reflecting off my taillight when he informed me that my lights were on, but my roomate informed me that he saw my lights on in the middle of the night, so i pulled the battery out and here i am.  how do i check the problem?  please help.

also, i saw just a little bit of gas on the bottom back end of the gas tank (sort of where my right knee would be)  but when i pulled the tank and inspected it it didn't seem like there was gas on any parts of the tank that actually hold fuel.  i also noticed some gas on the boot leading from the carbs to the airbox and a little on the airbox itself.  if there was a pinhole in the fuel tank, it could have easily spilled onto these parts, but i was wondering:  is it possible for gas to somehow come out of the airbox?  thanks...

one day i will actually ride my bike instead of work on it...

you turned the key to the "park" position. it will turn the tail light on and let you remove the key. look at the ignition it should have  lock, park, off, and on
