Sort of a ride report I guess. Upon arriving at school the motorcycle training course was in full swing! Our community college offers this course for $25, as possibly other colleges do. I promised to promote it's importance to new riders and how inexpensive it is. Had to get to class, so they weren't riding yet...just getting info from the instructors.

The last two pics are of an instructors wife (with helmet ears) very polite and informative I might add, and a fuzzy nervous pic of another instructors bike....1100 Honda.

State of Michigan mandates the cost is only $25, as long as it is the MSF course or another "public" course. It also takes place of your skills test.

For Michigan residents, here's a link with more information:

Wow. A state that essentially encourages riders to take the class instead of discouraging it. I mean anyone, especially new riders, who hear $25 after forking out a few thousand for a new motorcycle are less likely to run screaming from the room than when/if they're told it's $triple digits.

Last I heard it was $200 in Colorado.

I'd guess that if the high rate states dropped it to $25, MSF could make up the price difference in quantity. Heck, for $25 I'd do it, or at least the advanced course, every other year just for fun but not for $200.

Alot of colleges in southern Ontario offer this program, through 2 or 3 different agencies. The first course ($429 CAD) has an exam at the end which is your graduation from M1 to M2, the second course ($399 CAD) is a day of refresher and the final test for the full M licence. There is also a Refresher course ($319 CAD). They're not mandatory here, but their tests are easier than the Driver Testing Centre's ones, as the instructors know what is going on. Taking these also lowers your insurance rate, especially helpful for young guys.

Yeah, they're the guys I took mine with (Only did the first course). Great Instructors. There are courses around Guelph, but they're from a different organization. I wish they were like those in Michigan though.. $25 means no excuse not to take it. Oh and Fishmeister, I believe thats an early 80's VF1000F (I want to say 84, but I'm not totally sure), do you happen to know?

In theory this is a great place for more experienced riders to impress the opposite sex.  In theory.

At least in NJ, they welcome MSF attendees to return as RATs (Range Aide Technician, I think) which basically means you get to move the orange cones around between drills.  I did that once or twice, and it's a free refresher if you pay a little attention.  The naivete you'll hear from some of the students can be a little jarring though.

Heck of a deal, and a smart thing to do as well charging only $25. I paid $300ish for mine. There were cheaper ones around, but they were still $200ish.

That is correct, it's a 1984 VF1000F. I had one of these bikes back in the day.
