I'm one of those riders who checks the forecast every morning and if its supposed to rain, I don't ride...a "fair weather rider" if you will. Temp wise I could care less, but precipitation keeps me at bay.
Well today started off nice, so I took the bike to work. Then about 3 pm its starts to rain. First lightly, then heavy. And I drove right through the middle of it.
And I have to say, as much as I was cringing at the thought of it, it was good. I proved to myself that I can adjust for the slippery conditions if need be.
On a lighter side, when waiving at other motorcyclists the attitude in the wave/nod was either: 1) Yeah this sucks, eh? or 2) Ha, you got caught in this too, eh?
(sorry about the stereotypical Canadian "eh's")

I used to commute to work every summer and rode rain or shine. I would always carry my rainsuit and break it out as necessary. Rain never bothered me.

The worst part was that I was more worried about the bike getting dirty. But at least now I have an excuse to polish it up again.

Except now you have dirt & grime in places you won't be able to polish very easily... damn rain splashes stuff into the strangest places....

I got caught in that same rain today as well. Made it over to my parents, and took their van the rest of the way home. Lost my footing just setting my foot down at a stop light. (Wet decal stop line) That was enough, and I'll get it first thing in the morning, since I'm headed that way anyway.
Rain sucks.

I know...I pretty much treat it as if I'm driving on ice and I stay away from the middle part of the lane.

I dont mind the rain. It actually feels good after a long hot day at work. About the only time I wont ride is if its comming down hard when Im heading out the door for work. The wife on the other hand wont go out for a ride if theres anything more than 0% chance of precipitation.

It's GA. It's the Southeast. Rain storm EVERY FREAKIN' DAY!!!
You just get used to it. And to tell you the truth, if I can just get to work in the morning dry, the rain on the way home is an absolute relief, even if I have to slow down and pay close attention to the cagers. Just blissful, rain soaking in through the gloves and jacket at 35 mph, and you were roasting in a garage all day....
I love that darn bike.

i avoid riding in rain at almost any cost. i was heading between towns one day on my '82 750, maybe a 30 mile ride. about mile 5, i hit one of those showers youd see in a cartoon, torrential downpour for about a 1/2 mile then it was sunny again. thats all it took for the bike to give up. pulled over cranked on it a bit, got it turned around when the traffic cleared, cranked on it a bit, called a friend, cranked on it a bit. it finally started, canceled the friends rescue. headed back home where i found the plug wires were basically held together with belief in fairies (im assuming that was the problem). its obviously different when everythings put together right, but id think rain and exposed engine dont mix

I ride in the rain, but I can't when I go to work. I don't think showing up in a wet business suit would be a good idea.

That's why God invented rain gear. Rain or shine I ride. I think I skipped one day because it was supposed to poor all day long. I enjoy the rain sometimes. Something about being on a motorcycle riding through poring rain and staying perfectly dry in your rain gear. I have started long road trips when the weather called for 90% chance of rain. The bike has more grip than you think in the rain. As long as your tires are in good shape. Start of a 730 mile day. Rained for probably 400 or 450 of those. At one point I had taken off my rain gear only to come over the next hill to see another storm cell. I put my rain jacket back on but left the paints off. Not the best choice. Rode in that cell for a good 100+ miles. Boots filled to the top with water. Keep sticking them up in the air to drain them. Did find if I rested my feet on the engine it would heat up the water then I could squish the water around the boot to warm my feet.

I like riding in the rain too, especially out of the city. It's like you said, just calm and different.

Same situation here Jordan, as long as it doesn't rain on the way to work, I ride. I can always leave work later if it pours. I normally check the doppler radar on weather.com and try to squize in between heavier rain. And at least 3 times this summer I rode in enough rain that my boots were completely filled with water. I don't mind it at all as long as it is warm though, it's just one of those interesting experiences cagers miss...

I have some rain gear, but it still won't protect me 100%. Plus, it's sort of tight fitting and it just wrinkles up my suit. I don't feel like running clients out of our firm because I look sloppy. I've thought about leaving one of my cars at the office and driving hte bike daily, and if it starts raining, just take the car home adn swap it out the next day.
