OK I was out for a short ride Saturday and noticed the battery seemeda little weak, brought it home put ti on the charger for a couple days (computer chip controlled so no overcharging). I was out of town and when I returned and put it back in today, I had juice but when I hit the start button nothing . I can hear the solenoid "clicking" but it's not very loud (seems I remember solenoids I have experiece with click much louder) Any thoughts? I also do not have the "kill switch" engaged. How can I check the starter to see if it's still good? Thanks in advance for any and all help!!

Check your battery connections first.
if you do use a car/truck/ donor motorcycle to jump it, make sure that donor's engine is OFF.

then it very likely is in the wiring. but a battery can die really quickly, so even though you just bought it, 5 minutes of cranking can easily kill a freshly charged battery.

OK so I got it to push start, and rode it for a bit in lower gears to spin up the alternator more to charge the battery. When I got back home I tried to start it back up and nothing again. I then jump started it off my truck and the starter worked fine, so I guess I just smoked my battery.

My 2001 CB750 got to where I had to rock it in gear before it would turn over. It got to where it was doing it more often than not so yesterday I tore the starter down and cleaned it up. One of the brushes was burnt pretty bad, I ordered a brush set and all new rubber parts for about $30. I'm pretty sure this is going to fix my problem, just thought I'd share.

Falcon030, thanks for sharing.
More often then not, I find peoples starting issues are in fact the starter at fault...not the battery or charging system.
I had starting issues on my 750s earlier this summer and after going through the entire electrical system, it turned out my starter was the one to blame. Swapped it out for a newer, lesser millage starter and now it cranks over like crazy.

the solenoid is supposed to click. but it's obviously not getting power or not enough power to the started. put a volt meter on the battery, is should read atleast 12.6v if it is fully charged. leave the meter on the battery, turn the ignition on and see what the voltage drop is, it should drop .3-.5v. leave the meter on the battery and hit the starter button. if the voltage drops below 9.6v, you have a dead cell in the battery.
also check the current draw with the ignition off. you may have a short somewhere. and check all the connections between the battery, solenoid and starter.
