My 1985 cb 650 sc Nighthawk
« on: September 25, 2016, 12:23:35 AM »
I bought this bike in 2012 for $450 and have been moving from shop space to shop space and never had enough time to get her running.  I finally parked her behind my apartment and after a month of troubleshooting I am finally riding since 2010 when I had my first motorcycle, a 1992 cb 250 nighthawk.  I really like Honda motors, something about that whine when down shifting, and working as a custom metal fabricator has me itching to do things to this bike. This may become a build thread, who knows.

The bike wasn't running when I bought it.  Here's what it took to get her running strong:
Rebuild Carburetors
Rebuild Starter
Replace Starter Solenoid
New Battery
Replace Ignition Coils
Replace Valve cover gasket
Rebuild Fuse Box(Fuse seats were broken)
Replace Head and Tail light Bulbs
Replace Seat.

I added:
Euro handlebars(for a slightly more aggressive posture, I'm 6'2ish)

I need:
Front fork seals(disassemble and clean really)
Turn Signals(I want to fab frame-hugging LED signals)

I love this bike.  It has a lull in torque around 4k RPM but picks right back up at 6k.  It's easy to think of it as a line to manage fuel economy that you consciously step over.  It's little bit heavy but it has enough power to compensate and make for a pleasurable power-to-weight ratio.  Considering the overall investment has been around $800, it's got a great smiles-per-dollar ratio.

I really like what this guy has done to his 83 650 but I'm not sure I want to have that aggressive of a posture at all times.  Still a really cool looking bike, his build thread is over at dotheton.com here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=6734.0

And it was stolen last night.  Apparently some guys stole my neighbors s10  truck, drove around the block and came back and picked up my bike and threw it in the back and drove off.

Unbelievable people still do stuff like that. Sad to hear she's gone. I'd be checking craigslist for it if I were you
