Old Planes and Cars
« on: June 08, 2014, 05:49:42 PM »
Not nearly enough for a solid ride report, I already stretched the Cape Cod trip pretty thin, but I thought I would share a few interesting photos from today's ride.

Always have to get one of the Ninja.

I found a grass airfield near Plum Island just south of Newburyport on HWY 1a.

I lucked out getting there just in time as this biplane was taking off.

I was hoping to get a shot of the plane over the tree line with the sky as a background.  The darn pilot kept the plane low and buzzed over the airfield and by the time he gained altitude he was too far away for a decent photo.

I love biplanes, how the maneuver in the sky.  Short, choppy but precise movements unlike the more graceful modern planes and jets.

I also chanced upon this very interesting car parked at an ice cream shop.

A very modest dash.

I have no idea what kind of car it is.  It's not parked next to another for reference but it's very small in scale.

It has the best hood ornament.

That was it for my day in the sun.  And for anyone who read my lousy Cape Cod ride report I can happily say that this was just about one of the nicest days I've had riding in a long time.  Perfect weather, zen-like mindset and decent roads with mostly light traffic.  You can never get away from traffic completely in the greater Boston area.

Nice pics, that would be a Nash Metropolitan. Neat little cars, made from 1953-1961.

Looks like it was a great day for old plans and cars.  Oh yes, and a ride.  Great shot of the Ninja.

Car might have come from Wisconsin, Dan. I think most were built in Kenosha. My guess is a '55.
Great shots as always. nice1

Dan,

If you like cars and airplanes you should check out the Airplane and Car show at Simsbury airport in Simsbury CT. I've been the last three years and it's a great show.

I love the biplane. I would have tried to flag the guy down and see if he'd let me sit in the front. :)
What is good Phaedrus...

Thanks for the tip, Smuggler.  If all comes together maybe SOQS and I will take a ride down in September.

I love biplanes too, ari.
