Hey there guys! Glad to be here. I just got my nighthawk. It's a 85 450 with, of of right now, 5199 miles on it. I love it!

Unfortunately the previous owner "cleaned" the carbs. and he wrecked them pretty good. It runs, but only smoothly up until about 4 or 5k then there is absolutely no power. I am looking for a second set of carbs for this machine. If anybody has some for sale that run nicely. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know! thanks!

All these great looking old bikes, mines looking more like a has been then a fixer upper. think2

It looks like it's running way lean by the looks of the pipes, I'm thinking the vacuum cylinders are stuck closed. (justa guess)

Well me and a friend were talking last night and he just took apart his carbs on his 82 nighthawk 450. he asked if i had the rubber caps or plugs that go in the float bowl. (#25 in the clymers manual on page 203) and I don't. would this cause the bike to run rich, like it is?

I would think that if they are supposed to be there & they aren't, that this could be your problem.

Not familiar with the carbs you have or if they were removed intentionally or not, but you might try installing a new set & see what happens.

hello and welcome to highthawk forums giff, any alteration to the carbs will cause problems. i would replace the missing parts. if you do need another set of carbs you can take them off  about any cb/cm 450. if its an automatic check that the carbs are the same size

Even the older cb450s? like the ones before the nighthawks?

the carbs from a dohc 450 probally won't work. i think the jetting may be different because we have emission controls on our bikes. i would stay with the newer 450s '82- '86
