I just found this article the other day in the February 1993 issue of Motorcyclist magazine. It's a brief story about a guy who took his Nighthawk S all around the country, and accumulated over 168,000 miles! It wasn't an easy run, though. Several things have been replaced in that time, including rebuilding the engine. I will try to get the article scanned and post a pic soon. I just wanted to give you the teaser :)

Huh, I can't find a mention of odometer readings on the crazy Greg's Nighthawk S Page.  That guy  super though.

Let's see, 168,000 miles minus my current 29,000 miles leaves 139,000 miles divided by my 3000 per year. Sweet! 46 more years with my 'Hawk.  ImaPoser

They are going to bury me with mine. Hope I'll be riding in a not so hot climate in the thereafter.

As promised...

Here is the direct link if you find the image too small to read.

This is great.  Apparently despite oil incontinence, my luck's not that bad so far at 40K.
My clutch plates needed replacement at about the same mileage as his, and I've had the steering bearings upgraded also.  Speedo cable did indeed break, probably from rust.  No starter woes, but the alternator and regulator/rectifier have been replaced...

I agree on being "very happy with the bike" and unless something very tempting comes along, am apt to stick with the 'cheaper to keep her' ethos.
