2014 Honda CTX 1300
« on: March 05, 2017, 09:23:47 AM »
Last year I started thinking about mounting some hard bags on my Nighthawk and turning it into more of a touring bike than I felt that it was with my eclipse soft bags.  I gathered the Givi wingrack with turn signals and the Nighthawk specific mounting kit made of unobtanium, but then I back burnered the project.

Back in January I was bored at work one day and was browsing the Honda site and saw the Goldwing F6B, then saw that my local dealer (who sucks btw) had one in stock so I went down to look at it.  Pretty much decided that it was bigger than my storage space could handle, but sitting next to it in the showroom was a 2014 Honda CTX 1300 in grey/blue metallic.  Kind of fell in love with it right there.  Put down a deposit to hold it, and came back 2 weeks later to test ride.  Got there and they had jacked the price up another 3k.  So I walked.  Drove out to State College, PA and picked her up a week later at $50 under my original price at my local dealer.  I can't say enough good things about Track N Trail in State College, PA (ask for David) or enough bad things about DHY in Deptford, NJ.

I really like the looks of that bike, wish I could afford one.  I have the ST1300 - same engine but different power delivery.  I understand they're not selling as well as the CTX700.  Shame, means there won't be may used ones out there when I can afford one.

They introduced it the same year they introduced the F6B, and very nearly the same price point.  They killed the CTX 1300 in favor of the CTX 700 and the F6B, but there are still plenty of them out there, but the used ones are like 9600 and they can still be found new for 10,999 so kind of a no brainer to me to get the new one.

Incredibly comfortable riding position, ordered a tall shield, saddlebag crash bars (each bag is apparently $2200 if you had to replace everything), oem fog lights, center stand, and figured out a solution for highway pegs.  Debating the factory top box but will probably get that too.

I've got a ST1100.  The only problems with the bike are the height and getting a windshield to work with Helibars.  Madstad makes a windshield for this bike, and it has a low seat height.  Cha-ching!

I sat on a Wing this weekend and couldn't believe how much lower the seat is than my ST1100.  I've got to keep my ST a few more years, but this bike would certainly merit consideration as a replacement.  I like the CTX700, except my back can't take the feet forward position.

I looked at the OEM honda shield, but wanted a little more height, and the honda shield has the vents open all the time, and some people really love the madstad for this bike, but other have said it's problematic to mount so I wound up ordering the Cee Baileys 16" tall touring (with a goldwing type vent)

First got the bug for a non goldwing/harley touring bike when I first saw the ST1100 at the Honda demo tent one year at Americade.  Wanted it then and there but finances were tight at the time.  Then saw the ST1300 liked that even more.  The CTX being born out of the ST was just the next logical step and this year when i fell in love with it I had the money to swing it.   bnna+

I had 2 ST1100s before the 13.  Loved that bike, and was really looking for another, but I just couldn't pass up the deal on the 13.  Still several 11 for sale around here, but they're all $1k+ more than I paid for the 13.

The only real issue with the 13 is the riding position.  The seat was apparently made for someone of a different height/weight than me, and I can't seem to find a good adjustment point for it.  Might end up selling it and getting something else.  The adjustable screen is great, but I'm thinking I'd like a larger one for winter.

I've seen the top box for the CTX, I'd say for the price, you can't go wrong.

I totally agree I ordered the top box last night, end of the day today should see the tall screen, center stand and rear rack on.  I'll post another picture if I manage to finish  everything i plan to get done. (that doesn't always happen lol)
