Well I did it. I put the deposit down on my FJR.

It's a 2006 Yamaha FJR1300A. I've attached a picture. It has 7600 miles on it looks to be in great condition. Apparently the previous owner traded it in on a CBR. Odd progression, but it works out for me. Picked it up for $6800 out the door, which is a steal considering NADA and KBB say retail is $9400. Dealership is going out of business, so I really beat them up on price telling them I'd put the deposit the same day and be there on Saturday. Between my insurance money, what I sold the Nighthawk to my brother for (salvage price), and what I'm selling my wife's old car for, the bike is pretty much covered.

Only setback is that it's in Buffalo, NY. So I'm leaving tomorrow to go get it. (Before anyone asks, I've already insured it for the trip back.)

I'll have more pictures when I get it back. The ones the dealer took aren't the best light conditions, but good enough for me to give them a deposit. I'm excited. And it'll all be legal on Monday.

DesignFlaw, you call it a setback to have to go to New York and pick it up?
You lucky dog you get to ride a nice long trip, that FJR can scoot, would you
say 4 hours from NY to Michigan on that thing?

Congratulations and watch your speed!

I didn't say it was a major setback. I have no problem going to get it. It's just that because it's in NY I have to wait until Monday to get it legal and I'm impatient. (Probably still take it for a ride on Saturday since I do have insurance on it already.) I'm putting it in the back of my pickup to bring it back. Easier to do it that way. I figure it'll be a 7 hour trip + border times to get there. I'm bringing my 13 year old cousin with me for some company.

If anyone is along the way and wants to meet up for a quick bite to eat, I'd be happy to try and work something out.

Nice work DesignFlaw. I hope you keep in touch on this forum, even though you own a Yami now.

I had to Google, because I thought the A meant what the AE means - an omission of the clutch lever.  Thankfully I was mistaken and you didn't get stuck with one of those.

This is one of the few liter+ bikes that I can muster any interest in.  Well-balanced sport-tourer.

Dude...I'm really jealous. Seeing that bike makes me want to get up off this seat and go for a ride no matter how much it hurts. I love those bikes too.

Just got back. The bike is in great shape and is in the back of my truck. (I don't have the part figured out where I get it out of the truck yet. That's tomorrow's project.) I got to take it for a small ride before loading it up. Rides great and everything works on it. Can't wait to get my plate on it and go cruise.

Sorry for those of you that are jealous or e-hate me now. If it helps any, I'm broke now. I had to buy my wife a new car in order to get the bike. Good thing this was a good deal.

Got the bike off the truck today and rode it home. Man, what a ride! I really do need to watch my speed. I think part of it is that the speedo starts at 6 o'clock, so 70 MPH is at 9 o'clock. Not where I'm used to seeing that speed.

Got it home and had it washed. Got some pictures of it and thought I'd share.

And yes, the bullet hole decal does look stupid. It was removed shortly after these pictures were taken.

I'd prolly be in big trouble if I owned that beautifully fast piece of engineering. In trouble, yet happy at the same time.

Just jealous, that's all.

Very nice DF. That beauty should soak up the miles like it's nothing. There is a great write up on an older FJ over at pashnit.com - http://www.pashnit.com/fj1200.htm - I read that and almost instantly wanted to ride an FJ. Keep us posted on how that beast rides.  lurker

I'm hoping to catch a break in the weather and go for a nice ride Sunday. I want to meet up with my brother and go ride with my old bike. Plus he'll want to take the FJR for a spin.

Otherwise, I've ridden everyday since Monday night, but it's just been to work and back. Nothing real exciting yet.

Love that bike DesignFlaw. Rode with a guy in NC that was on an FJR. Handled the corners well and just a sweet looking bike. I really like the automatic windscreen on it. He mentioned that the FJR went through front tires faster than rear. Not just on his bike but with every FJR owner he has talked to said the same thing.
