have a small amount of oil coming out of from the generator.  i'm assuming it's either the o-ring around the rotor shaft or the seal around the back of the housing.  anyone experience this?

are you talking about the alternator?...I've replaced the O-ring and Oil Seal on mine ...that's about the only way to stop the leak

yeah.  it's very slight leak.  i sprayed trichloroethane into it to clean it out really good.  i'm assuming it's the rotor shaft o-ring in the back.  i had it all apart 2 weeks ago, i really don't feel like tearing it down again.  it's still charging really good.  i think i will go with the "wipe it off every now and then" fix

Unfortunatley the leak will only get worse ......it doesn't take long to fix it  and the parts are cheap at BikeBandit ...if you do it right you won''t  have to mess with it for the next 25 years  poke

That is a common spot for the oil to leak on the Nighthawks.
I've seen folks fix the leak by taking Alternator off, cleaning it up and applying some hi temp 'goop' around the rubber seal. Otherwise, replacing the seal would be best.
svtfmook, hopefully your leak does not return.
