Title says it all.  Had her about two years, put over 17K on her.  This picture is deceptively flattering, if you ignore the accessory plug and oil spots.

Splinted and taped the blinker stalks, one is a bit droopy.  Also have a luggage rack, added the LED aux brake light above license plate.

This is just awful.

you may think its awful but it is a nighthawk and all the major peices are there, no missing body work to have to hunt down. unless i was doing some serious custom work i would call that a great find. to just have to do a good cleanup ain't bad and you can always put some of those short stem turn signals on it

survey says flush mounts up front and arrow shorties out back, a lil elbow grease and polishing and I would be proud to own it.

So which model and vendor does everyone prefer for aftermarket turn signals? I have 2 sets to buy now and have seen a few but nothing that really excites me. I found some really nice aluminum ones for $40 for Barbie's 650, but nothing yet other than plastic for the 700s.

I did buy an '84 the other day with a full set of unmolested stock ones. I might put those on the one I will sell.

I put a set of Buell turn signals on my KLR650, and I think they would look great on any Nighthawk.

Here's my post/info from The KLRWorld.com Forums-

Quote
I did a bit of research and decided to replace my stock turn signals with a set of Buell turn signals.

The Buells are shorter and have a darker lens.

They will fit the front fairing of the Gen 1 KLR650 without any issues- the stock retainer nut is a perfect fit.

But the rear lights have a shorter threaded stem and are not long enough to bolt to the stock luggage rack location. I myself will be locating my rear lights on the light relocation bar that I made to place the lights farther inward away from my panniers and the rack.

Patman has got a set and found that the stock 10 watt bulbs don't work with the stock flasher, so he changed the bulbs. I will be upgrading my stock flasher to an electronic flasher.

Here is the info-

Left signal - Buell part number p/n Y0526.K

Right signal - Buell part number p/n Y5027.K

Cost - $11.99 each

The only difference I could see between them was that the slot used to remove/pry the lens off is different from side to side. I think it's this way so that the slot is hidden when mounted (on the bottom).

I also picked up some male banana connectors from a Kawi dealership, as the Buell connectors are too large to work with the stock wiring.

Here are some pics -

A closeup of the lens-

Comparing the stock & the Buell -

Installed-

The Buell lights have a rectangular base and one alignment nub-

Here you can see that the stems will not reach through the luggage rack-

Possible modifications to get these to work with the rack might be decreasing the thickness of the rack at the mounting point or lengthening the threaded stem.

Here are some pics of the interior of the lights-

Great find on those Buell signals. Are you using the running light function with the fronts? If I remember correctly, the fronts require a dual element to include the running light function.

No, they are 2 wire lights, 10 watt bulbs , using an electrictronic flasher.

You might be able to mod it with a 3 wire socket & wiring though.

I am gonna pick up some Buell signal lights for the rear tomorrow.  For the front, I may get mirrors with turn signals built in.

Got my Buell rears today. Damn they look nice.  Still trying to figure out what to do with the fronts. I might try to get some front Buell signals and make them a wire socket so i have running lights.

HC, you bought another bike exactly like the one in your avatar or is that your only bike? This looks like an old post so I'm assuming it's the latter.

Cool tip on the turn signals Hondo.

Nope, I don't have twins.  At the time this was posted, there had been a streak of new members with similar bikes.  And as seen there's nothing particularly different on mine, just another...
