Allow myself to introduce myself:

I'm Jeff and I'm Canadian. I'm a recent owner to a '84 red and black

I'm in the process of restoring it/fixing it. It needs a new starter clutch, but I was able to pick up a spare engine from a cycle salvage yard to use for parts.

I've been around bikes since I was 8 or 9 years old and I've always loved the Nighthawk S. Its safe to say this is my dream bike. I also own an 82 Suzuki GS650G.

p.s. If you are on facebook, be sure to join the Nighthawk cb750sc / CB700sc owners group.

 welcome
Are the reflector laws different in Canada: why does the fork have a red reflector instead of amber (looks better on the bike, but I'm guessing it's original)?
Also, did you replace those turn signals?  I really like the slightly smaller tapered shape with ample stalk length.
Hope you get it running soon.

Wow...thanks for the questions folks...I feel Like I'm fitting in right away  happy1

- I'm in Kingston, Ontario
- Its a 750
- I'm not sure about the reflectors? To be honest I've never noticed that other Nighthawks had orange reflectors on the forks.
- As far as the signals, my guess is that they are not original. They seem to be in too good of shape to be original. The reflector glass is in very good shape.
- Yep I have the crank out of my spare engine right now. Just not sure if I should sell it, as its nice to have stuff like that as spare. In fact the entire spare engine is in good shape except that the alternator chain tensioner had broke...oh and I took the starter clutch out of it too.

Now my turn for questions  puzzled :

-Does anyone know what make of aftermarket exhaust is on my bike? There is nothing on it to indicate what type it is.
-I need to replace the fork seals. I already have a new pair. How hard is it to do this on the Nighthawk? I've replaced fork seals on dirt bikes before and it was kind of a pain. Should I just get the dealer to do it?
-Has anyone delt with these guys for sticker kits? www.cbdecals.afegraphics.com
As I mentioned I'm in the process of restoring and these guys look like a good source for Nighthawk stickers.

LMK if you decide to sell that crank out of the 750 please.

Not sure about the pipes or signals- maybe some closeup pics would help.

Haven't used that sticker place. Honda still sells the decals if you need them.

As far as the seals go, I did them on my 1985 650 and it was pretty easy.

You'll need an air impact wrench and the right metric allen head driver to loosen the inner fork tube from the fork (at the bottom of the fork).

Once it's out you remove the c-clip and pop out the seals by seperating the 2 parts of the fork.

At least that's what I remember.

Yeah, it was getting that C clip to fit back in the bottom tube, that I remember being a pain.

Is that all you need is the crank?
Just out of curiosity, was the cylinder sleeved smaller on the 700's? anything else different?

by hondo's post I am going to guess it is just a stroke situation, therefore getting a crank with a longer throw would stroke the engine out and increase the displacement.

btw, is this a hint hondo could be on his way to a 700s/750s sooner than indicated?

I think the only difference is the stroke of the crank.

I would like to know the difference before I got a Canadian crank for the US 700s I don't yet own, but I haven't been able to find out for sure.

I wish I could say that I had a bike in the garage, or on the way, but I don't.

I am keeping my eye open for one. Last year there was a 1984 red 700 with full rack & bags that sold here in Denver for $800. Ididn't have the money at the time, so I passed.

I do have some resources available to me now in case that kind of deal pops up though.

The reason I am interested in the crankshaft is because Gammer has an "extra", and I'd be happy to put it on the shelf for when I get my bike.

glad to hear funds may be available.  I have a friend who just passed his MSF and I have been trying to talk him into a 700s, or maybe he could take my 550 for a year and let me "take care" off the 700 for him till he can move up  ricky

Now that I have a couple Nighthawks to compare...
Yes the signals are aftermarket. The rear signals are not original and are mounted in the normal mounting area. However the fronts are mounted completely different then stock.
As you may or may not know, these bikes are known for having weak posts on the signals...they dangle allot.
So instead of having the front signals mounted on the forks (stock), a previous owner created a small bracket that mounts to the frame and has holes drilled in either side for new signals to mount to. The front signals are stationary now, and do not turn with the bars. Picture the bracket in this shape [
I will post a better pic when I get a chance.
