1983 Honda 650 Nighthawk
« on: October 17, 2017, 11:00:24 AM »
Picked her up on Craigslist for $400.  Only 7800 miles on the clock.  New tires, fork oil & seals, horns, blinkers, changed oil and drive shaft fluid, rebuilt carbs, drained and derusted inside of tank.  Biggest cost was a nearly new exhaust I found on ebay for $400.  I bought a Nighthawk in 1983 as my first brand new motorcycle when I was 23 years old, so I had to have it.  This could potentially be my original bike, but I don't know how to find that out.  Anyways, bike runs and rides great.  Next is cosmetic restoration.  Any suggestions on how to restore the aluminum parts like grab rail and valve covers ?  Lots of squiggly lines running through them.

Nice looking bike. nice1
Have you tried Nevr-Dull on the aluminum. It's great for shiny bits and anything metal.

A lot of the aluminum on my '83 650 had a clear-coat on it (including the valve covers)  and the clear-coat started to peel.
I managed to buy some of the covers on EBay from a guy that was willing to polish them and sell them for a reasonable price.
So you can spend the winter polishing the aluminum parts and have a great looking bike.

How many pictures do you guys see on the photobucket link ?  I couldn't figure out how to post them right in the original post.  Supposed to be a dialog box pop up when you click the insert an image icon, but not working for me.

There's only one pic that I see.  Photobucket doesn't let you share directly any more unless you pay.

That's a beautiful bike. I'm currently looking for my first Nighthawk, been out of the bike game for a long time.

Very nice bike. 83 is a great year, but I guess I am a bit biased. Incredible how inexpensive these bikes are used.
