I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I was wondering what other bike I could take parts from, mainly on the mechanical side, but also the seat and gas tank.

your seat and tank would have to come off another cb400t II, engine parts could come from any cb / cm 400 '78 or later

Thanks that's very helpful, I can widen my search for parts. Also is the gauge cluster for the CB400T II exclusive to this model as well?

i think that the sporty hawks ( the ones that look like mini 750f's ) have those instruments or you could see if the bracket to fit the individual tach and speedo will bolt in place of your originals

Could you be a little bit more specific on what I could use, I'm still very new to motorcycles, although I'm mechanically inclined, I don't know enough to use the information you just gave me.

your speedo and tach sit in a pod where as later cb / cm had inidividual speedo and tach that bolt to a chrome cup that set on a black bracket. if you look through the project logs you'll find my post where i replaced my speedo there should be a good pic or email me and i'll send the pic's to you. my mufflers came off an '81 cm 400 the speedo from an '80 cm 400. even though some mufflers are longer the mount to the same bracket that bolts in the same place on all cm / cb 400/450's
