Any other members here have dualsports/enduro's?  I always wanted one and finally got one a few years ago.  My first DS was a 200cc chinabike.  Fun little bike and fun to mod!  About a year or so later I wanted to upgrade.  I was in the mood for a KLR650 when I came across my DRZ.  It's a highly modded 2001 DRZ E (not street legal from the factory) with a Yoshimura 450 kit and loads of other stuff.  It rips!  I put motard wheels on it for a day.  Total waste of money IMHO.  They cost about twice as much as I have in my Nighthawk too.   Hap1

Then I wasn't looking for another bike but saw a virgin 1998 KLX 300 (not street legal from the factory) for a good price.  I've always like Kawasaki green (no matter what it's paired with) and the old purple on the 4 strokes and blue on the 2 strokes.  Both of them have been made street legal with the Baja kit.

The KLX was a total virgin.  Has the original chain (I cut it to take it off and clean it), then I changed the front and rear sprockets for better road riding.  I hardly ever ride it so I've had it up for sale a couple times.  One guy talked me out of selling it.  He said I'd regret it.  Since I decided to keep it I put Racetech springs on it and Dynojetted it.  Fun little bike.

I set up a dual sport ride last year and 10 of us got together and rode the backroads.  My wife rode the KLX.  I got to try out the BMW HP2 while we were waiting.  I'm happy with my bikes.

Don't own a dual sport, but want one. Went through the training this spring on a Suzuki 250 (only bike in the line-up to 'fit' me. At 6'4" I use the term loosely). Those look like great bikes you've got, and great places to ride!

Here's Booger II, an '00 XR650L, the replacement for the original that was stolen in Sept.
I just finished building this one so have yet to really trail test her.
Booger was an '03 KLR650 with the same type of sidecar.

Booger, MIA 9/2009.

EDIT. Booger found her way home after 9 months, pretty beat up and no sidecar. A bit of TLC, some fabricating and paint:

Also found this '88 for $750.

Do your homework before you buy one, so the bike will fill your need on what you want it for.

That's a crazy setup you got there on your XR.  I wouldn't want it but I can appreciate it for sure.  What stuff do you carry with you?

Real handy when it snows which is due tomorrow BTW. Been in the 20's so I can ride on icy roads....carefully.

48 gal. capacity. Worlds largest top box. Groceries, camping gear, beer, weapons, whatever. Lift the lid off and carry your Aunt Edna.

Do you like it better than running with a trailer?

I was looking for an XT or XL 350 before I found my Nighthawk.  Wouldn't mind having a DRZ400 either.  Had a friend who had a XR650L, that bike was way to big to ride any kind of trails, but a good for the high speed stuff.

Really Nice Bikes!  IMHO you will never regret a dual sport.  Growing up on the farm it was always nice to have something utilitarian.  They are great for the concrete jungle too.  I rode an old DR250 in HS (Purple Pink and white color scheme  wacko).  Its always nice to have a bike that inspires as much confidence on a gravel trail as it does on the Hwy.  On a side note I really like the BMW in your pic...some kids wanted to be astronauts when they grew up,  I juat wanted to finish the Dakar rally one day!

I want a dual sport that can handle long highway jaunts as well (I'm not giving up, Sobek!).

ive had quite a few enduros, yours look awesome btw,

mine were all kawis 650 i even had a rare tengai model, think of dakar,

the one thing i liked about them is when the law rides up your ass and hits the reds and blues just turn right anywhere, works awesome especially when your in a high traffic area side walks and curbs are nothing just have to look out for the people,

any pics of them where they belong like woods ??????????????

I just got a 82 XL185S. Starts, shifts, brakes and it was cheap. It has lost its turn signals, horn, cut off switch, bright/low does not work. I think I will get it road worthy and registered. In my mind at some point gas is going to go out of sight again due to either natural supply and demand or democrat VAT taxes. A nice scooter for my off the freeway commute or a tidy profit if I flip it.
