1983 Yamaha XJ900RK Seca.  I owned 7 of these over a 35 year period and sold this one last year in absolute mint condition.  Had an orginal 3000 miles on it

3000 miles???  Why would you make her spend her life sitting in the garage?  She was born for the road!

Don't remember this model - she was a bute.  What is the grey triangular part in front of the tank?

It's an air scoop pulls in fresh air and directs it to the motor.  On used ones, both sides are almost always missing or broken and they are the hardest 2 parts to find on the entire bike.

This was a one year bike for the USA.  It went to Europe and Canada  for several years afterwards.  It's actually 883cc.
This is the only color scheme available to USA.  Canadian models were all white with Blue & red striping.
Approximately 3,000 came to the USA.  They are far and few between at this point and bring top dollar.

This one was the last one I acquired.  I had another in the garage at the time and rode it most of the time, so that's why this one was well preserved.

I bought one new off the showroom floor in 1983.  The price was $3395 back then.
Sold it about 4 years later and bought a 1982 Honda CBX, I then spent a lot of years looking for other Yamahas that might be out there.  .I found 6 of them over a 35 year period  making a total of 7 over the years.

I sold this one and the other that was in the garage about 1 1/2 years ago when health issues almost forced me to give up motorcycling - both went to the same fellow in upstate NY with a parcel of parts large enough to probably build another complete bike.  They were rare in the US so whenever I saw spare parts, I picked them up.  The Yamaha Seca line of bikes could use a lot of the same interchangeable parts.
The 900 was actually developed from spare parts of other earlier Yamaha Secas.

I actually helped Yamaha rewrite a small portion of the Factory service manual where they had made some errors in what goes and fits in certain areas.

It wasn't a great machine but it did everything well.  It is my all time favorite.

Always wanted a 700sc and had the opportunity recently to get one close to home so I went for it.  After spending 35 years with all of the Yamaha XJ900's I just felt it was time to move on.

Actually the Seca was on my list of bikes I was looking at for my first. Could never find one though.

Great looking bike though!
