The CBX is a bad mofo. Saw one on ebay once that was bought new in 1980 and never ridden. The guy kept it in a climate controlled space and the winning bid was near $20k. Someone with more $ than brains but it was a beautiful bike.

Think I will be able to fit that engine in my Rebel 250's frame?

Beautiful bike, but I'd hate to mess with SIX carbs and keeping them in sync and clean Four of them is plenty enough for me.

It'd leak like a siv! Every rubber seal inside that bike has rotted or cracked, I promise you. I don't care how it looks on the outside!

Interesting how there are no frame down tubes. I never realized the CBX was built like that. Wonder how it handles?

I've never ridden one. Only seen a couple up close. I would think the wide motor would present an awkward riding position. But I bet that thing has some incredible low end torque.

Cycle World did a recent story on 3 6 cyl. bikes from back in the day and said the CBX was a very refined ride for a 30 year old bike. From the pics of the riders it looked like a standard riding position. I know 6 carbs could be a pita to deal with but if I ever found a CBX for a bargain price I would love to have one. If it sat in my garage I think I would spend too much time admiring that beast of an engine.

Someone with more $ than brains but it was a beautiful bike. That's crazy. $20K then the winner had to get all new hoses, all rubber seals, new tires and hopefully it was properly mothballed before storing it away lest it's corroded/rusted internally. Climate controlled can mean a huge variety of things, only a few of which are actually good for long term storage of machinery. Just think of all those uhaul climate controlled storage places that are nothing more than air conditioned buildings. Unless it was climate controlled by the smithsonian or similar operations, I'd rather take my chances with something in a vented shelter in the high desert.

Knowing how ebay auctions go the winner may have never paid for the bike. I can't imagine buying a brand new bike, keeping it for 30 years and never riding it.

Climate controlled can mean a huge variety of things Right you are Mr. B. Of course, down here is the land of perpetual 95% humidity, I'll pass on the vented shelter. At least we don't have to contend with road salt rust.

yea hp, it sucks, took the other bike out for a sprint the other day. it was warm, first day about 32 in a month! it was 34! road salt is nasty, good thing it washes out easy...just gota get to the hard to reach places which is next to impossible.
so in other words, dont drive anything worth of some value in the winter, let alone on heavily salted roads

Yea I almost went for a quick sprint myself on sunday. But i'm holding strong for the real nice stuff.
That bike is pretty awesome but I don't think I would spend 6k on it. I'm no tech guy, so can someone explain that motor to me?

I had a red '79 that I sold to buy the property my house now resides on. While I miss it from time to time and it was a lot of fun, I would never pay today's asking prices for them. There is a guy at work that claims he knows of 2 1979s still in crates somewhere locally. In 1990 he told me the owner would let one got for $15K. Right! Nice but nowhere near that. 1980 with the future wife. Sold the CBX in 1981.
