My 2000 NH
« on: June 17, 2014, 04:07:13 PM »
Downloading some photos from my phone I see this pic of my 2000 NH that I took a few weeks ago in the yard, so here it is LOL. I saw the ad on Craigslist last summer and it was odd that there were no pictures. The add read great shape, 4,000 miles, $3,000, with a phone number. When I called and spoke with him he admitted it didn't run and needed a battery. Sounded like a bad deal but it was just over an hour away so I tossed some straps in the truck and went to see it. It was dusty but in a partially heated garage with no rust including inside the tank. It had the backrest and factory windshield. It needed a battery, new tires, and I was sure the carbs cleaned. Explaining this to him I offered $2,500. LOL he accepted right away so my offer could have been a little less but what the heck the bike looked good and my hunch was it was fine mechanically.

I put a new battery in it, new tires, changed the oil, drained the tank, and also flushed the brake fluid. Filled it up with fresh gas and a bit of Seafoam for good measure. It fired up and ran well enough to ride but it wasn't running quite right, definitely too lean. So I removed the carbs and cleaned out the clogged up jets (I have no idea how it ran at all!) then I added a washer under the needles (thanks to this forum for that tip!). I backed out the pilot screws an extra 1/4 turn well. The result is it runs perfectly now. The last thing I did was install the factory center stand and Corbin. It now has over 7,000 miles and I think many more to come.

I think not a great deal after all the stuff I had to do to it. In fact when I was done with it I ended up having at least his $3,000 asking price in it. I'm pleased nevertheless.

Good looking.  It's now worth the money you have in it.

Thanks nhawk57.

The local dealer has three CB1100's in stock so a couple weeks back just for the heck of it I rode the Nighthawk over to compare and maybe even talk trade. On the way there I was really enjoying the ride and how the smooth engine was just purring, the seat, pegs, bars felt just right. Then I pulled into the lot and and went in the showroom. The black CB1100 looked great and I like the color matched side covers on this years models. No doubt the CB1100 is a better bike with more power, 6-speed, FI, etc. but sitting on one it just didn't feel as comfortable as the old Nighthawk. I'm not sure what it was but it seemed a little cramped and obviously the seat no where near as comfortable as the Corbin. When a salesman saw me sitting on it and asked if he could help me I said "no thanks", I had made up my mind.

Just reinforces the attributes of the Nighthawk.  The CB1100 is no doubt a fantastic machine but the for the $'s, the Nighthawk (750) is hard to beat.  I believe there are 1 or 2 members (maybe more) here that have both the 750 Nighthawk and CB1100.

I agree.

A different dealer is offering new 2013 leftovers for $8,800 with no setup, freight or fees. Not a bad price.
