I bought a 1984 cb700sc today.  It has 8300 miles and runs pretty darn good.  It's been garaged for the last 8 years getting run round the block a few times every couple months.

I need to reattach 3 blinkers, clean out the fuel tank, and replace the clutch lever (which my uncle managed to break on a test ride). Oh, and the windscreen is missing.  Finding a replacement for that is low priority for now.

Thanks guys.

The gas tank is at the radiator repair place getting cleaned out and coated.  Because I don't want the paint or decals ruined by the cleaning/coating process they have to use a milder acid which will cause this to take 7-10 days.  *sigh*, I thought I'd have it back at my house this weekend.

Other than that, the turn signal and clutch lever parts are on order.    New plugs are going in this week and the oil has been changed.

Not sure if you are picky about this, but it looks like the "Funnel Cover" is missing on the left and right side of the carbs. Its a little silver piece that covers up part of the carbs from about the boots on the air box and covers up part of the carbs.

Other then that and the windshield, its looks good!

I didn't even know the funnel covers existed until this post.  I'm assuming those are cosmetic only?  If so, I'll leave them go for now.

If anyone has a decent windscreen, let me know. As I mentioned, that's low priority, but I would like to get one.

*sigh*

I picked up some parts on Friday that I ordered on Monday--two rear turn signal mounts, clutch lever and the front right turn signal mount.  I was just looking at the parts and realized they ordered the front left  turn signal mount.   UGH.

I opened the package--they better not give me any trouble getting the correct part...ASAP.

How much was the front signal mount?
A previous owner rigged up a different system on mine and I'm toying with going back to original...

If you don't have any of the original parts it's just way too much, IMO.

And the prices at the local dealer were bad for the few parts I did need.  Cyclepartsnation.com has the parts for a much better price but I was hoping to have the bike up and running this past weekend so I ordered them locally*.  I have all the turn signals in a box--the mounts for both rears and one front crumbled over time in a hot garage I guess.

I paid $43 locally for just the front mount.  I paid $35 each for the rear mounts.  *sigh* I really should have purchased aftermarket rear blinks for $29 for the complete set.

Check out this parts list for the turn signals:
http://www.cyclepartsnation.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/7/25/52420/773/default.aspx

*Of course, after I ordered them locally we found out the tank was going to take 7-10 days to clean out and seal.  BTW, tomorrow is day 7 I'll call to get a status update.

Sorry for the blurriness of the pic...

Basically, the previous owner manufactured a flat metal bar and mounted it to the top oil cooler bolt. The ends of the bar are bent 90 degrees back and has holes drilled for the signal to mount to. Its quite simple and looks good.

The rear signals are the same as type of signals as the fronts...just mounted in the stock holes. (and are two wire, not three wire like the fronts).

I dug up another shot of the entire bike...

You can see the rear signals in this pic.
Also note the color of the reflectors on the front forks. That is just a red reflector stuck on to the mounting bracket with double sided tape.
I currently don't have the reflectors on the forks, but I think the red looks better then the stock orange. Don't you?

I'd probably leave those blinkers as is.  You'd be spending about $75US per side for the fronts to convert them back to stock.  I guess it's not that bad, but it's unnecessary really. (Unless you are wanting truly stock looking bike, then go for it.)

BTW, did you get my PM about the windscreen?  :D

I did.
I looked at removing the screen from the spare fairing I have, and it looks like the screen is mounted with pins and compression washers...which are a b*tch to remove.
I haven't gotten around to taking it off yet.
You still interested?

Yeah, depending on 1) how much trouble it is for you to remove it (are those pins/washers reusable??) and 2) price (of course).  I'm not really in a hurry for it, I really should get some miles on it and make sure it's going to be dependable before I let it nickel & dime me on little parts.

So...no hurry, just keep me in mind before you do anything with it.  Do you think shipping from Ontario to Missouri may be cost prohibitive?

Pins are re-useable, and you can get the washers at any hardware store. I just purchased some from Canadian Tire for mounting my rear fairing back onto the rear grab bar (uses same washers, only bigger).

Shipping to you shouldn't be more then $15 or $20...possibly less.

Cool, let me know when you get around to it.  And I'll post back here about the progress with the tank.  Hopefully it'll be ready to ride by the weekend.

I didn't even know the funnel covers existed until this post.  I'm assuming those are cosmetic only?
I've heard them called faux velocity stacks, which right away tells you they're like Lee Press-On Nails.  Apparently they're meant to resemble some carburetor performance accessory.  They were missing on my bike too, and I'm assuming they're not cheap to replace.

Looks like it'll be at least another week for my tank.  The rust was worse than originally thought--so now it's off getting some type of rubberized coating.  The paint has to be removed, too, so I'll be in black primer when I get it back.

Update:  I have 4 working, and mounted, OEM turn signals and a full-length clutch lever.

Oil has been changed, spark plugs replaced, inline fuel filter installed.   I'm waiting on the gas tank now.  Hopefully it won't go longer than 7-10 days--which means I'll have it by next Friday--in time for a Saturday ride.

Speaking of inline fuel filters...
Anyone else use these on their Nighthawks? Any issues?

I tried to use one once on a GS550 and I had to take it off because it restricted the fuel too much.

I hadn't thought of that.  I'll have to check for proper gas flow when I get get the tank back.  We'll replace the one we installed with a higher flowing one if we need to.
