Hey all new to the forum.  I have been working on my winter project. its a 1986 cb700sc rigid. custom fenders. pretty much stock for the rest. when i got the bike the pull cable for the throttle was broken so i got a new one threw it on. both my cables move freely through the lines. when i hook up the throttle tube and twist the throttle it dont want to return. i can physically return it and the cable works fine when you dont have the throttle tube all hooked up. i made sure the tube is cleaned and the bars are cleaned. i found a cable routing schematic and i have them run right. is there any way to adjust the spring tension? any help would be awesome. thanks...

The spring may be worn out.  But check to make sure nothing is binding the throttle tube.  Clean and lightly lube the bar under the tube, and make sure there's nothing in the area where the cables connect to the tube.  A little silicon in there could help.  Everything needs to work smoothly.

i dont think the spring is worn out because at the top without the tube attached i can pull on the cable with pliers and it seems to return quickly. everything is clean and i lubed inside the cables also.

If it both the cables and the throttle move fine before everything is hooked up it could be the way you have the cable routed. There may be too much of a bend in it causing it to bind.

i figured out the problem today. when i got the bike it had both cables on it. the pull cable was snapped and the push one was fine. so i bought a used set off ebay. replaced the pull only. well today i noticed that the push was a little longer so replaced it with the used one i had and presto a perfect working throttle...wish i noticed before
