Hello boys and girls
I`m new here , and new to Jap bikes in general ...except for a long ride I took on a 305 Honda back in the ol days .
I just bought this 550 NightHawk last week , and plan on doing some ridding with the weather warming up .
I`m 56 and haven`t been on a bike in 20 years or more ...Health is getting bad I`ve spent the winter in and out of the doctors office , takeing enough meds to choke a horse ........but I ain`t done livein yet ... I want the wind in my face and a bike I won`t have to spend too much time working on .....looks like I found both .

I do like this bike ...not too heavy for an ol fart , runs smooth and I`m enjoying it ..
There is one thing I would like to have that it doesn`t ........does anyone know where on line I can buy what It would take to put a set of highway pegs on it ??
I hail in North Mississippi ....ridein the southern back roads .. looks like spring has sprung here .

That's the hard part, not sure if they are aftermarket or stock but nevertheless prolly both are discontinued.
You have to get used to scouring ebay daily to find a set. They pop up from time to time. Or make your own.

We... I took the MSF course this past fall On a NH 250), got my motorcycle license and now own a 1985 Nighthak 650 and a 2000 Nighthawk 750. Long story as to why two machines but its here in the posts but I'm 61 and enjoying another one of those items on my "bucket list".

I too, have been a bit under the weather since September. Nothing like getting on a bike and hitting the open road as a good cure!

Enjoy the NH and welcome to the group!

One of the members here set me onto the right path ...where to buy yesterday ...and I have them ordered .
Looks like they will fit the need for a place to hang my long leggs . thumb

I dropped my bike yesterday ...in the shop with me on it !
Has anyone else ever done this ?
I was sitting on the bike in the shop letting her warm up ...she`s a little cold blooded .
Well ...after a min or so she`s ready to go , and being an old guy with CRS ...I had forgotten my helmet in the house , not a big deal I still had the kick stand down right ???   I let her lean over for the stand to catch her while I ran in the house after the forgotten helmet .
WRONG ! I had also forgot I put the kick stand up .. aparat   to bad I don`t have it on film !
Down I went NH on top of me !  all I could think of was ...Help I`ve fallen and I can`t get up !  gerg
Now I have a bruised knee ..and ego   scratcher
My NH came through it unscratched .

Haven't actually forgot the side stand before but I have let it lean onto the stand without looking. At that point it dawns on you that if the stand was not down the bike would have gone over. Always check and double check not only if the stand is down but if it's going to land on a flat surface. Not in a hole or something. I now just make it a habit to watch the stand touch down. There is a certain point where there is no stopping a motorcycle from falling over. As you discovered. At that point it's best to just let it go and get out of the way. Much easier to pick up a bike when your not under it. Now that you got that drop out of the way you can relax. Just not too much.

I've come close to doing that. Sitting on the bike go to get off and  lean the bike over...No side stand bugey it's not easy to catch the bike while you are straddling it.

Hey Ol School,

Welcome from another new member!  It makes me so happy to see that you went thru some health and issues and instead of resigning yourself to the recliner you go out and bought a bike thumb.  It says lots about you and your character!

Wishing you many more miles,

Ari White

P.S. How about thrilling us youngsters with some tales of the bikes and times gone by?

P.P.S. Don't worry about dropping the bike, the only ones who haven't are thse who soon will. LOL
