So I rode about 350 miles yesterday opting for the two lane highways instead of the familiar interstate to get to my parent's house.  All I can say is wow,  It's so tragic that we are in such a hurry to get from point A to point B we never even question the things we might be missing.  I set off on this ride determined to take my time, stop when I felt so inclined, and take pictures of everything I thought to be relatively cool.  This resulted in what normally is a 2.5 hour trip taking 4 hours and the following photos....

Good report - we like the same kind of rides, back country adventures.  I like the old medium-duty truck in the 2nd picture under the canopy.

Glad you enjoyed the trip.  The old gas pump photo reminds me of my grandfather's fishing resort, he had a pump station and a generator house that was very similar.

Just a tip on posting photos. If you host the images on some place like photobucket, you can put captions/descriptions between the pictures. Just FYI. BTW nice ride pics  thumb

Someone has an eye for rural decay.  Has more visual interest than a generic superslab, but can require too much thought.  Thoughts like "Why is a wheeled safe out rusting away beside some tires?"  Bittersweet sights, but often mind-boggling as well.

350 miles in a day without highway speeds is a long day in the saddle, isn't it?   My experience with backroads exploration is that the time toll is quite steep if you actually have a destination.

Happycommuter:

1. My hypothesis is the safe is heavy as H hot LL, so that's as far as they wanted to move it  laugh

2. Yeah it was a long day but i took plenty of photo breaks.....And I said I was avoiding interstate....not interstate speeds  burnout

Riding the back roads is always more fun. You never know what you'll find. Great pics.

Backroads are always more enjoyable. I almost hate riding on the freeways and interstates around here. If you're lucky enough to have sleepy backroads in your area than your missing out if you don't ride them...my opinion anyway.
Great pics.

Nice.

You should call up the guys from that American Pickers show and send them to those places you saw. Maybe they'll give you a finders fee.  Hap1

I am jealous of the nice country roads. Great pics, enjoy those roads for the rest of us who dont have them, and keep the photos coming.
