Hello Everyone,

I am a long time Honda car guy who is getting divorced, therefore to ease my pain I am looking at buying my first motorcycle.
It is a project bike, that I am willing to spend a lot of time on.  I was looking for something under 500 cc's so I don't kill myself.  winker
So I was looking at this:
82 Nighthawk
30,000 kilometers on it
Needs a fuel tank, and a little cleaning
It hasn't run for 7 years, but I am not too worried about that (I have a lot of experience wrenching on cars)
The guys is asking $400 which I feel is quite reasonable.

Now for the questions:

1 - Fuel tank - what fuel tanks will fit on this bike (can I get a tank from any year of Nighthawk with a 450 in it?)

2 - What in particular should I look at when looking at the bike?  Are there any "impossible to get" parts on this bike?

3 - Is this bike known as the CB450SC?

4 - Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

1. I'm not sure what else will fit. The main changes from year to year was the paint job so different years should fit. You would need to look closely at pictures to see if the tank from the Hawk CB450 would work.
2. On almost all bikes the side panels seem to be hard to find(I was lucky mine were all there) Most Items that you may need will come up on eBay a lot of parts from the CB450 will fit the CB450SC(except the side panels.
3. Yep
4. My bike sat for almost 10 years (PO didn't know anything about bikes) It only needed cabs cleaned and new battery for the engine to run. Then just the normal thing you may need (tires, new chain and sprockets, check the breaks and lube/replace the cables)

Thanks for the tip, I probably would have been so excited that I would have forgotten to check the basics.

I do have a follow up question, I was surfing around on Ebay, and I was wondering if a fuel tank from a 750 or 650 would fit on the CB450SC?

Thanks.

I'd bring $250 cash and wave it around a bit to see if he bites ;)

Nope - Only a CB450SC ('82-'86) will fit.  Well with a big F^$*ing hammer anything will fit...  gavel

If it turns over I don't think you can go wrong.  Tanks and body panels are getting really hard to find though so expect to drop some cash if you need them.
