Hi there.
I'm new to the forum but I have been lurking for a little while. You guys all seem to be an alright bunch! I was hoping I could get an opinion on some disconcerting sounds I heard from my Nighthawk.
So some background info, I've been riding for a year and a half now, my learning wheels were a 87 Rebel 250 but i wanted something bigger so I decided eventually on a Nighthawk 700s. I have the 84 with a silver paint job (Non stock of course!) and I probably won't have the money to get it on the road for a week or so. Till then I'll be getting used to it doing figure eights and such in my driveway.
Anyway, back to the noise. I'm hoping its nothing serious, 'cos being a broke college student, most of my money went to buying the bike. It was idling in my driveway on the side stand. The handle bars were turned full lock to the left and no choke. The bike started idling lower and lower, nearly dieing, but accompanying the odd idling was a knock, nothing loud and it was very regular in timing. I'm hoping it's nothing to be worried about and was to do with it being leaned over and idling slow. I'm going to try some seafoam to make sure the carbs are clean. Any input from experiences or ideas you have had will help. Thanks a lot! I'm just excited to own a 700S, its the bike I most wanted for the money I had to spend. Thanks for the help!
Joe.

Like Detbuzzard - I'm wondering if the noise is repeatable during any other conditions?

How long was the bike idling when it started knocking/having low idle?

I did similar, I used a rebel 250 in the MSC class and got a VT500 afterwards, now I've got the CB700S  banana

Thanks for welcome guys!
It did this after 5 mins of idling with the bars turned. I spent 15 mins trying to replicate the noise today with no luck so who knows? I'm not too worried about, i figure if i hear it again i'll listen for where its coming from and take a deeper look. I'm gonna take a look at the carbs and i need to fix the gear indicator and neutral light, so i'll take care of that first. I'll post some pics of the bike in the main forum when I get a chance.
