Last Friday my son laid down the Nighthawk. He was riding on a paved road which
turned to gravel and he panicked and grabbed the front brake and laid the bike down.
My son is OK, a few bruises that is all. He was able to ride the bike home. The head
light bracket needed to be straightened out, did that. Changed out the handlebars
since they got bent, did that. Now the bike will not start. When I turn the key, lights
come on, signals work, horn work but when I press the starter button the headlight dims
a little but nothing happens. What gives? I have checked all fuses, also the kill switch it
is on. However, when trying to start I had the kill switch in on position and off position
and it did the same, just dim the headlight. I could not tell anything was wrong with the
kill switch, battery is good too. Any insight appreciated. scratcher

Fisrt off, Glad to hear your son is OK!  You should warn him about those two wheeled killing machines!  ImaPoser  As far as the starting issue goes, which side did he lay the bike down on?  I doubt he damages the actual starter but he may have knocked a wire loose.  Find out which side he went down on, check and tighten all electrical connections and get back to us.

Well, I figured it out, it is the littlest things that will disrupt. I disassembled the
kill switch/starter button assembly and first examined the kill switch again, it
was fine. Then I looked at the starter button assembly and found a little piece
of plastic which had lodged between the starter button and the connection?
which the starter button touches to start the engine. That is why the lights were
dimming when I pushed the button but no start. So now the bike is back on the
road again and my son is very happy he does not have to ride the bus anymore. smiler

I will post about the new handlebars in the handlebar section once I have pictures.
