Now...what does this thing on the bike do?

To make a long story short, I was able to replace the gasket no problem...I was able to do some other stuff while in there too.  Once I was able to start putting everything back together I was starting to get anxious to get back on the road.  My pop wanted to help and started torquing the cylinder head cover bolts one by one.  We got to the last one and he broke off the bolt!  banghead  Oh well.  So I ordered the new bolt...takes about a week.  ugh!

This week has given me time to figure out how to attach an used luggage rack/backrest that I won off of ebay.  The setup is not designed for my bike, but for a "mid 70's CD750".

It came in the original box and has only minimal wear.  All I have to do is clean it up.  Below is the story on how I learn to attach it.

I knew this was leading to something bad as I read it.  You did torque them in the correct order, right?   poke

I'm sorry to hear about you breaking one off.  I know, it sucks when you're finally getting close to getting things done to ride off into the sunset and something bad happens.  Oh well.

Cool deal on the rack!

So...it cam in a bunch of pieces without instructions of course, so I was left to figure it out myself.

Here is a picture of the setup partially put together.

The front of the setup will be attached to the bolts on the side of the seat.  I thought I might need longer bolts, but it turned out to be ok with stock.

The rear will be attached to the grab rail using a few pieces of "Repair Brackets" I found at the local hardware store for $1.50 each.  You can see the brackets and the grabrail bolt below.  For the grabrail, I had to get a longer bolt from Pepboys.

In the next few days i'll be cleaning everything and reattaching it.  Once I get the cylinder head cover, gas tank, and seat put back on, I'm set.

Pics will be up by this weekend.

Thanks moze, the rack was only $50 and I don't have to cut or mod it in anyway.

Here is everything put together!  And I got to ride around the block for the first time in two weeks!  It felt great to hear it start up again.  After work for the next few days, I be taking short rides around town until I can trust it again.  BTW, this whole thing has caused me to rethink my "On the Go Tool Box".

Cool!  Now loose the backrest and it'll be REAL cool.   poke  Just kidding, that's just a personal preference of mine.

That is a good looking CBSC, original paint job and all.
