So....for the big anniversary this year, the Lovely Barbie said she wanted something both of us could ride together, comfortable, for a full day. It seems that after a couple hundred miles, she gets a bit tired on her Ascot. I did the research and left the rest to her. Her choice will do for the time being......
She is a keeper(Barbie that is).....

You would be surprised at how trim it actually is. I guess the perspective of the photo has it looking bigger than it actually is. It fits in the trailer just as easily as the Nighthawk does. You know, this is a V-Max in sheep's clothing......

It's a 1988 Yamaha Venture Royale. It has a slightly detuned 1300cc V-Max engine(100 hp) that most people who take care of them get 150K miles. The engine is a V4 configuration. This one has 60K miles.
It has: Cruise AM/FM Radio On board intercom Cassette tape(that will never be used) CB(useless unless you encounter a traffic problem......besides, I carry 2 meters and 440uhf) Air suspension that automatically adjusts to load based on selected ride setting(has built in compressor)
There may be other things that I have not discovered yet.....

Looks EXTREMELY nice for a 1988! Great find! You could ride that anywhere in total comfort...like maybe NC for instance

Nice find Dave, I have a 1984 goldwing aspencade that looks alot like that. I think Barbie will love riding on the back. We should plan another trip together real soon now that you have a touring bike. And dont worry about explaining yourself,LOVE makes you do some crazy things Just kidding,I love having my wife ride with me. Nice find, great looking bike!!!!

We plan to do the Tenn/NC thing the first week of June. I would suspect since we will trailer there, we will probably bring my Nighthawk and her Ascot. Only time will tell. That was the plan before this one came along.
I am planning to sell one of the '85s as soon as I have completed a thorough once over. It is a somewhat low mileage one that should make someone a great ride. I will tear in to the yellow one to address the 2nd gear issue and check rings and valve seals. It is, hands down, the fastest Nighthawk I have ever been on. The '84 is a project that I am modifying slightly just for grins. The Big Dog will also go bye bye too.
We have a bit of a stable of vintage dirt bikes that will remain.
We are ready to make the trip back over to Indiana again real soon. Just say the word! By the time we got back on the last trip, she was a bit tired and sore. Then again, she hasn't ridden much distance on her Ascot.
Yes, Love does make you do some crazy things, and she had 40 years now to make me crazy!

I like the Venture, I'm would love to get a burgundy one. My wife prefers to have her own bike (she does not like looking at the back of my helmet) but she has not gone more that 30 to 40 miles on a ride yet (still pretty new).

Jim.....I had planned to make that trip until I ended up having to play a memorial service that Friday evening. Then I got a call to play a Sunday thing, so that took care of the weekend. Since Saturday is still open, I am going to go work the race at Mid-Ohio. That should fill up the weekend!
I plan to be over your direction again before too long. I have to get it here and all registered and gone over first. We were all over Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky last weekend. Looked ar a number of nice ones, one of them a really pretty burgandy one. We would have bought it had this one not been available at the price we got it.
And yes, I choose the Venture because of the physical size and the handling. I do research things a bit before making a move. I'm still planning to ride my Hawks a bunch.

Jim,
The race in may is an SCCA National, so it is just a club race. I work Grand-Am, ALMS, IRL, HARMA. and AMA Superbikes. I usually get a guest pass for those events. We can talk. If I am driving, I can always put you on a crew list too.....

I'm working that event, not driving. I can put you on my crew list if I happen to be racing that particular weekend. Otherwise, I may have a guest pass. You are first up for the AMA event.
And.....I am not getting the white '88 Venture. I found a '90 with 12,000 miles for the same money that is pristine. Barbie liked the white....but......
Picking it up tomorrow.

We're home!
Just got back in about an hour ago. Unloaded everything, put the trailer and other bikes away and snapped a photo with Barbie's phone. It's even cleaner than I had anticipated. Not a mark on it, factory tool kit, bag liners that have never been used, accessory pouches that have never been used, owner's manual, and complete service records from the dealer. New tires, oil change, rear gear lube, and AGM battery. The bad......it has some tape residue on it from the for sale sign. Goo Gone tomorrow along with a bath and wax.
Barbie likes the blue now better than the white. I told you she was a keeper!
More photos tomorrow with a real camera.
And Big Popa, I would be honored to trail you!
