Still need to pull the old stud(ganna try using a hacksaw and cutting a line in it so i can use a big flathead)! Since the stud is junk anyway, you might be better off trying to get some vice grips on the stud and getting it out that way. The way you mentioned sounds like a lot of extra work Matt

Tried vice grips, this is why I'm going to try and use a flathead...might just use a die grinder and cut a line in.

Update time!
Since my last post the bike has been put back together(expect for the airbox). Carbs where cleaned, new fork oil and seals, alittle more paint here and there.
Bad news: Got it to start twice now...wouldn't stay running either time...and now it won't start at all. Plus when it did start up the oil still leaks from the left most bolt on the valve cover...somehow I knew something would go wrong.

You'll get it going in no time. In the meantime, let us see some pictures of it assembled before you decide to take a jackhammer to it. Matt

Leak is still there and just as bad as when i started this. Reason...the helicoil I put in came loose...working on fixing now.

Another new update(I'm on a roll today)! Leak is fixed, bikes starts right up and runs...new problems. I can't give it throttle wihout the choke...this may be due to not having the airbox on. Second problem, for the turn signals I have three female plugs(green,grn/white, and I think white) and only two male ends...so they light up but if you use the blinker it goes off.

Well I'm having one heck of a time putting the airbox back in. Feel as if buying pods and bigger main jets with washer mod might be a better idea. Still haven't figured out the turn signal issue either. Wiring diagram shows all three plugs are in use...but I don't have a spot for a third plug. Any ideas?

Take a picture of what you're talking about on the wiring, and I'll go take a look at mine. If I see where you're trying to go with it, I'll also take a pic and post it here and maybe that will help? The airbox is just like that. The only way I got mine to cooperate was to have the airbox sitting where it goes BEFORE I installed the carbs. I used a ratchet strap, as suggested in other threads, to hold the airbox back a little bit while I put the carbs in place. Then release the ratchet strap and fasten it up. I know that some people say that you don't need to do this and maybe you don't, but it worked for me. I actually tried to install them the way you're doing it now and I couldn't get it - and I had the same thoughts about pods. Two things though. One, try not to pull back on the airbox any more than you have to. You could crack it with the pressure. Mine seemed to be pretty flexible but I could see where some may be more brittle and crack. Second, you're still going to have a hard time getting the airbox boots to seat onto the carbs all the way on no matter what. At least I did. Mine are all sealed up, but there is one in the center that still isn't on as far as I'd like it to be. I hate the way they have everything crammed in this model. Once you get it back together, you're going to be sore for a couple of days from trying to cram all the boots and connectors on there. Matt

Thanks for the idea but I managed to get the airbox in this morning. She no longer needs the choke on to give it throttle! idle was mad off tho, 2200! Set it down to 1150/1200. Nice and easy to pull out. Now to buy insurance again and renew inspection! I'll add all the photos tonight. She runs and I'm very excited! Besides the paint, only mods are drilled exhaust and took the filter cover off.

if anyone is wondering or just want to see it, here is some photos of my other bike you see in the new photos! She is a 2008 Suzuki GS500F and she just hit 2,000 miles yesterday! Have another exhaust on its way(D&D), installing pod filters and rejetting(this bike is SOOOOO much easier to rejet correctly) in the next week or two.

Looks good man! I'm was going to start tearing mine down soon, but now it looks like we'll be moving within the next few months. I don't want to get started on it and then have to move it in parts. Good job.

Thank you all very much. Yesterday was a day of alittle more work. Flushed the brake fluid real good...and o my...it was a odd shade of red/brown and smelled real bad. LOL, so cleaned out and kept bleeding till it was nice and clear again. Front brake feels amazing now! Before it was so bad i could hardly stop with the front, i was using mostly just the drum. NOT NOW!!!
