Well I just bought a 1984 nighthawk S for $1000.   it has 38k miles and was in pretty good mechanical shape.   I am in love with it!!!!!!! wayyyy more power than my past bikes which were in order 88 honda vtr250, 84 ascot vt500, 87 cbr600.  I found this site and I am sure I will have lots of questions for everyone!!!!  of course the signal stalks were completely mauled but I have fixed it since I took the pics and I will post some pics of my new bracket when I get a camera.  here are some pics!

let me know what you think!

 welcome
I must have those engine guards.  Please remove them and mail them to me.  Besides the crummy stalk (I've got that problem too), the dented muffler is the only fly in the ointment.  Bah, cosmetics, it runs good and long.

Oh, great avatar!

hahah thanks guys

yeh about the avatar  I am a cafe guy at heart!

I will trade you the engine guards for a battery cover ( mine blew off and got run over on the trip to school) or for one of these that I think might look sweet on the bike http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=&store=Main&catId=406&productId=p61450&leafCatId=40602&mmyId=

I didn't even notice your location. Cool.
If you want to hook up sometime for a Nighthawk meet and greet, let me know?
Sometimes I take a ride across the ferry on my bike to Cape Vincent, NY for lunch.

Sweet ride. $1000 is a bargain nowadays. With gas prices the way they are, the 700S prices are usually $1500-$1800, at least around here.

I've said it before, the blue 700S is still my favorite bike. Good buy and welcome to the forums.

Wow, that's cheap but I was hoping for the form-fitting black curves (that I can't even tell how they attach).

Ok, I'll admit, you can see where they attach, but I don't think they look 'that bad'...

SuperTrapp
That actually came off of a 700 engine...
The exhausts are swapable from the 750 to 700 and vice versa.
I even measured the inner diameter on the exhaust port to the inner diameter on the header and they were the same.

Yes, the 84, 85, 86 700s (USA) exhaust can be used on the 84 and 85 750s (CAN) and vice versa.

haha thanks my buddy took it on the way home from picking it up.

I think it looks like a pic that should be in the brochure, except for the sagggy turn signals!

as far as my question about an aftermarket exhaust goes... It seems to be impossible to find an exhaust made for the "S" model, i am guessing they are all discontinued.  but I was wondering if an aftermarket exhaust from a regular nighthawk 650 or newer 750 would fit???  because these exhausts are still in production

You STOLE that thing for 1000 dollars! You got a good deal.
Plus u got the engine guards.
Yeah the turn signals suck on these bikes but that's about all that sucks about these bikes!  plus it's easy enough to replace em'. they look slick with smaller led signals or flush mounts which you can usually do for around 100-125  bucks or you can go more expensive routes if u want.
Also about exhaust and mufflers, there is a 4 into 1 that's made for it and I've seen various slip-on's used on 'em
