I just did a short ride to check out a few interesting and places and do some initial temperature readings for my octane rating testing (more later).

Miles: 132
Average speed: 48 mph
MPG: 72

I headed out through Japatul Valley, then grabbed Skyline Truck Trail to HWY 94. I then followed 94 out through Campo to Boulevard. Then I backtracked to get on Old Highway 80, stopped in Pine Valley for ice cream, then through Guatay and down Interstate 8 home.

Here is the track:

And here are a few pictures!

In Campo, just past the train station, is the the old Cameron House. I am still researching this home, but while stop talked with the daughter of the last owner (The Paschen's). He bought it in the 1930's from the Cameron family. The house was built around 1888, and the area is known as Cameron Corners after the family:

Next to the house is the small store. An old Model T and model A sit there as well several other antiques:

Another interesting spot is the old Feldspar Refinery, which is now the Motor Transport Museum. Feldspar is a white powdery substance used for porcelain, pottery and glass. Initially the Feldspar that was mined here was taken directly to the Campo train station and shipped out for refinement. But in 1925 they built their refinery onsite. When it was built, it was the tallest building in San Diego County:

Kind of short and sweet folks! But that's it for this weekend!

Ride safe!

Nice report Warren. Its a shame that those cars just sit there and fall apart.

There sure are alot of interesting things to see around your part of the country Warren, and you somehow know where to find them. aparat

Keep up the good work, the reports never fail to entertain me!  thumb

Yes it is a shame... Also around back is a unloved early 90's Harley, and old 40-something Packard and more...  Sad

A model T sitting out back in my neck of the woods (a rarity to be sure) looks like a bucket of rust.  It's amazing how much better things age in the west.

I think that might be the best kept secret of motorcycling.  I'm discovering the exact same phenomenon where I live.  In the cage, we can't see the forest for the trees...
