Hello all. I am a new bike owner and just picked up a 1984 CB650SC Nighthawk. I love it! I'm a new biker and am new to the lingo and what not. Please if you have any tip/tricks ... let me know.

 welcome
Feel free to edit your post so that the full-size pictures show (members here generally seem to love pictures, not have bandwidth issues) so we don't have to click all those thumbnails.  I'm hoping the engine was already warm before revving so high in the video.

Standard advice for new riders is to take an MSF course* and wear full protective gear whenever riding.  Finer details can follow after that.

* Starting the bike while not on it tends to be something the MSF instructors strongly dislike.  Yeah, I do it too...

Now...what does this thing on the bike do?

Take it from me...that MSF is great.  I took it and was extremely humbled by the experience, and also met a great group of people and potential riding buddies.

Also, get yourself a manual, and some decent tools, you will need them. As always, don't be afraid to ask questions.

I am scheduled for the class this Friday. Applied for it about 2 month's ago. And yes the bike was warmed up before revving it. Thanks for the advice about the picture uploads.

welcome to the forum!  Cherry lookin' 650 you got there. Can't stress enough that your first investment needs to be some high quality safety gear.  Ride safe and have fun!

I'm from around the Lynchburg area. And those roads here are fantastic! (Although the pictures were from my driveway.) Thanks for all the welcomes!

Welcome aboard SirSeanSean.
Nice to see another 650SC on the road.  Looks like you've only got 11k miles on her, that's great.  The 650SC is easy to maintain and VERY reliable....  But she does have a couple kwirks.
1.  Cam chain tensioner has been know to go bad early and not take up the proper amount of chain tension (creating chain noise).
2.  Charging system is weak.  OEM stator and Regulator/Rectifier only start charging after 2,500 RPM.  Aftermarket stators and Reg/Rect have improved output.

Welcome aboard!

welcome from eastern Maryland, nice looking bike you have.

I couldn't help but notice that your rear brake pedal is adjusted pretty high compared to your foot peg, any reason for that?

Also..... I'm working on getting my 650 on the road and I was wondering what brand seat cover is that, that's the type I want.

The seat cover is from Saddleman. The guy who I bought it from had just put it on. As for the foot break, I'm not quite sure why it is higher up. Is there any way of lowering it? As for the luggage rack, I don't know yet. It doesn't seem to be an original honda part(I could be wrong). I'm going to take it off tomorrow and clean it up. If I find out anything more on it, I'll let you know.

I was aware of this(unfortunately I learned the hard way) I try to keep the rpm at about 2500- 3000 when just letting it run. Is it hard to install an aftermarket one?

Please post example links to sources for the aftermarket items that produce better charging output... would help out more than just one of us new folks...

 Thanks for the info!!!
There is a adjustment screw on the rear brake pedal that hit's the front peg.
You use the linkage to adjust the gear shifter. It makes a huge difference in comfort (and safety) when they are adjusted correctly to your favorite riding position.

The tires are fairly new, although I don't recommend them because they aren't the most "grippy" to the road.

And @ 83 550SC Thanks I'll try adjusting it tomorrow.

I took the basic rider course last week after riding for 2 months.  It was a great experience.

Check this site out http://www.regulatorrectifier.com/catalog/600-650 , but there are many more.  Scroll about half way down the page and there are many options to choose from (I went with the aftermarket vs OEM).  Stators are also available from this site.  They had the best prices at the time (last Fall).

Hope this helps,
