Thanks for the warm welcome I have been away from motorcycles for a few years and I am enjoying getting out and taking a ride on my days off. I am in the Raleigh, NC area if anyone knows of any meetings or good rides or want to? Please drop me a note. As for the V&H if the bike runs good on stock pipes I wont need it. I need to check the plugs but looking at the blue on the pipes I would say its running lean so I don't think it was jetted up for the V&H also it has a little hesitation just off idle. This week I plan on checking the plugs and seeing if the carbs need synced.      Dgig

Just fired off an email to someone who might have an exhaust just north of Atlanta.  I'll let you know the results!

welcome  Great looking NH.  '93 was the best year, so hang on to that one.

The blueing on the V&H pipe may not necessarily mean its running lean.  Definitely check the plugs.  Unlike stock pipes, aftermarket pipes are single wall and lighter.  Blueing is pretty common with most aftermarket pipes even with normal mixtures.

Good luck finding the stock pipes.   I don't think you'll have to search too hard as a lot of folks like to go with a noiser aftermarket pipe on the Nighthawk.  There should be dozens of stock pipe sets sitting in garages all over the country.  You just have to find 'em

Got the following reply:

Quote
That stock 4-into-two system is still hanging there.  A little rash on the outside tips of one or both mufflers from the previous owner's crash, but quite serviceable.

Feel free to have the person seeking such a system mail me directly.  I'll make him a good price.

I'll PM you his email address.

I want to say thanks to Soupskin who hooked me up with a friend that had the exhaust I needed as you can see the NH is wearing its stock pipes again. They look much better than the V&H and the sound and ride is improved. I am still waiting for the gaskets as the local Honda dealer would have had to order them. I know bike models change faster than my shoes but a bike that was made for 12 plus years should have some parts in stock also they only had a couple helmets in my size (Large) can you say E-Bay.
On another note I am looking forward to playing the Photo-Tag game thats going on but am waiting for a better challenge Route 66 is no where near hear.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and Happy Fathers Day to all.

Header's look brite, make sure your not lean or they'll go blue. If you haven't done the Tim Hodge Mod's you may want to, at least on the carbs. You will only have to pull off the tank, you pop off the top's of carb's to pull the needle assembly's out and put ( #4 ) washers in.  Makes a big difference on throttle response and lean condition.. Any ways you bike is looking good..  biker_h4h1

Hey Tomb Raider, I went backwards from the V&H back to stock exhaust the bike was running with a hesitation off idle and some serious bluing but that seems to be gone with the stock pipes I think it was very lean. Just to be safe I went by Radio Shack and picked up #4 washers also my carb sync tool came in. When I get a chance I need to still install the gaskets for the exhaust(on order) it runs with just a little leak from the #1 (no gaskets) and sync the carbs and consider doing the mod.

Yeah, those stock pipes look MUCH better.  I didn't think they were in that good of shape when I saw them hanging in the barn.

Don't concern yourself over the parts not being in stock.  The NH is something of a parts bin creation meaning many of it's parts also fit other bikes.  Which is good in that those parts will likely be available for some time.

They did clean up well, Steel wool + Chrome cleaner and Lot's of Elbow grease. A couple of the pipes have some bluing any ideas or products do you know of that will remove the discoloration?

There's a product called "Blu Job" (no joke) that is sold in the bike shops.  It will take the bluing off with some elbo grease.  Unfortuntately, at least in my case, it comes back after a few hundred miles.  I've heard that running rich is what causes the bluing?  If so, my bike does run rich - maybe that's why the bluing is coming back.  think2

Your on the Right track, Hppants, I've been told the opposite. Blue + Lean, Idono. But when I did the washer job she woke up.. I'm shocked that blue will come off.. Keep us posted..
