so, i take it, you went the cafe racer direction, good call! i have been thinking about how to make a new tail, and i think you may have nailed it there with the cut down spray foam.

looks like you might need to restart this thread in the project area...
Yea thats still the plan but its kind of on hold right now since I dont hvae themoney to get everything togethre and buy the glass and stuff.

And right now im having pretty serious issues with it. It statred running weird and it started as a small flat spot around what I think is about 5500 and then progressed into a bigger flat spot in a broaderr rpm range and now it just sputters at anything over about 3000 and wont go any further. just like its hitting a rev limiter.

anyone have any ideas? I really need to try to get it going this friday. I had to leave it at my brothers house and borrow his gf's car to get home.

I would check for air leaks by spraying starting fluid or waving an unlit but on propane torch around your carbs while it's running (making sure to get between the carbs well) , it sounds like a lean condition that keeps getting leaner to me , if no leaks are found I'd start tearing into those carbs .

Have you checked the air filter and box?

If not there, and you still suspect too much gas, make sure the choke is closingly fully.

How old are the spark plugs and plug wires?

Air filter is brand new with only a couple hundred miles on it and I did pull it and inspect the air box and I didn't see anything abnormal.

When operating choke while riding it seemed to make no difference so that may be my next check. I might have to try to do a quick clean of the carbs

You should have picked up the $80 one, they usually go for over $200.

thumb I paid $150 for mine almost 3 years ago and that was a steal.

Unless the backrest is bent up, rusted, or some other major blemish.

there is actually a swap that you can do for the coils from either GM or Ford (I think), which Hondo did on his cb1000.  you will have to research on this but maybe someone around here remembers a little more clearly than i do.

cheers,

thanks for the heads up on that! I did some searching but it was all very unspecific nobody listed a part number although it may have been visible in some of hondo's pics... He showed how he had to modify it for the most part but im not too sure how he changed th eplug wire hookups or if he went to the car style wires...  scratcher

Im pretty sure the coils from a mid 90's to early 00's gm with the transverse 3.1 or 3.4 v6 is your best bet. go the junkyard and yank some. Follow the link hondo made to the original forum that posted the coils swap and you will find more details.

reply #128 has the links. I highly recommend reading hondo's entire thread. Its very informative and has great pics.

Well somebody at my apt complex backed into my bike and knocked it over. It bent the bars, front brake lever and brake pedal. I managed to straighten the brake pedal enough to work and I may be able to straighten the lever but Ill need bars for sure and Im finding conflicting info on what bars will fit without hitting tank.

Well my bars finally came in so I could get the bike back on the road again. finished installing them about midnight and then hit the road and now its time for fuel and a rockstar.

I ended up ordering the clubmans and mounting them a bit different but I'm really happy with the new look and riding position.

After filling up around 2
