Hey All,

New here, don't know best place to post, so I thought I'd give this one a try...

I'm thinking about buying an '83 CB650SC, but know little about them.  Can you give me any heads up about them?  What should I know to look for? What problems do they typically have? etc...

I have a 78 CB 400T that I love, and I enjoy doing some work of my own on it, and I like to have another bike in the stable so that I have one to ride when working on the other.

Thanks, and I look forward to chatting with more of y'all when I start working on a new to me Nighthawk,

Good choice. I have the first model year which was the 82. The 83 was apparently a much better bike with shaft drive and a better cam adjuster. I would look for the problem which plagues mine which is an engine oil leak on the shifter side about midway up the engine. It supposedly means a couple of bad O rings that are in the same place as the head gasket. Look under the bottom of the mufflers for rust as mine were rotted out but the tops still had lots of chrome on them.

Well...after spending a good part of the day reading through various forums, websites, and threads here, I'm feeling pretty convinced about a mid 80s Nighthawk.  Either the CB650SC or the CB700S.  My first bike was a 250 Nighthawk, then after a hiatus of a few years, I got a manual shift scooter, then most recently a '78 CB400T II.  I'm looking to get rid of the scoot now, but I need a second bike so that I have one to ride when I work on the other.  I keep looking at other bikes, but those Honda Hawks / Nighthawks win me over every time...

Thanks for all the wonderful posts on the forums!
